'sports Mode' Effect With Auto V6
luxtonm replied to frogeye's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Frogeye Here's the link to the gearbox coding settings, I've set my Galaxy autobox to 00011 but occasionally it will shift into 4th a little early and cause the car to shudder for a fraction of a second, but its the best setting for towing my caravan. It is a shame there isn't a switch for Sport mode anywhere, used to have a switch on an old Carlton years ago, it transformed the performance of the car. The Galaxy 2.8 V6 is 100% VW mechanicals and electroncs and therefore VAG-COM is 100% compatible http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/4-Spee...ssion_%2801M%29 It is possible to find a full copy of VAG-COM on isohunt.com, but i've not been there ;-) I bought a lead off ebay for -

'sports Mode' Effect With Auto V6
luxtonm replied to frogeye's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Frogeye, You can recode the the gearbox through vagcom for econamy, sport or learning mode. I've programmed my galaxy for learning mode as I only use the car for towing a large caravan, previous to this it would only change gear at max revs towing the van :-( now its a perfect tow car. Search vagcom faq, if you have no luck PM me and I'll find the info for you Best regards Mike -
Reinforced tyres are required for the high pressures involved ( greater than 40 psi ) . As well as the fact that low profile tyres will be used. This applies to all Mk1/2 Galaxy's regardless of engine type or size. Extra load tyres are required beacuse of the 'extra load' i.e. 7 seater, the increased tyre pressure is required for the extra load. Each tyre has a max Kg rating (kg rating x 4 wheels) , the Galaxy is a heavy vechicle + 7 people Mike

Auto Gear Change Issue
luxtonm replied to pincher's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Many thanks Steven, I will check that. I had a diagnostic done and it came up with a permanent error on the speed sensor ?? does anyone have any idea WHAT and WHERE they are on a 2L 1995 petrol model ?? Thanks Dave Hi Dave, As far as i'm aware the speed sensors are the ABS sensors. I guess they mean throttle position sensor :) -
Got mine from main dealers.....

Hi, My Galaxy's air-con hasn't worked since I had it, had Kwik-fit to re-fill system but the told me it has a leak. I'm not sure its worth the time or money to investigate the problem. Anyway my question is how can I get fresh air into the car, when the climate control is on 18oC or the low setting, no fresh air gets into the car. Does anyone know how to bypass it? Thanks in advance Mike

Assuming you have a 2.8 petrol, you can test the instrument panel via VAG-COM, I tested mine the other day, it was quite amusing watching the speedo go from 0-150mph in approx 3 seconds lol, you can also recalibrate all the dials on the instrument panel via VAG-COM. But if you've not got a VW based engine VAG-COM is no good to you Regards Mike

Hi, It could be as simple as a brake binding etc, also the air temp has changed recently and it will take longer to warm up. I noticed your from the east mids, I'm in Coalvile and got a full version of VAG-COM, your more than welcome to meet up and check the engine management out Mike

I've got a 1998 2.8 galaxy with 4x4 auto box. Could somebody point me in the right direction for changing the gearbox oil. I've searched the forum but cant find any advice for changing the gearbox oil on the 4x4 variant. Looks like there are some horror stories about the autobox, is the 4x4 any more reliable? I bought the car as a tow car, I kind of get the feeling it was the wrong choice to have the autobox, but I couldn't any manual 4x4 Galaxys Mike

Think its worth checking that your fitting the correct bulb (correct voltage), if so try a different brand (may be a dodgy batch)

Hi, Please could somebody help. ABS does not work, but its not the usual faults! ABS light goes off after a few seconds. but ABS does not work Checked the ABS on VAG-COM, no problems found, all 4 wheel sensors work indicate road speed Done OUTPUT test on VAG-COM ABS modulator works Brake pedal switch works Loosened N/S ABS sensor and pulled out 5mm so that the sensor is not detecting the ABS ring, when pulling away now at low speed O/S front ABS modulator applys brake to front O/S (i.e. tractsion control working) ABS light still goes through test and goes out even when sensor disconnected! Car is 1998 Galaxy Ghia 2.8 4x4 Further Info from VAG-COM VAG Number 1J0 907 279 H Component Number ABS/EDS 20 IE CAN 0001 Soft Coding 12812 Shop # WSC 00020 Any Ideas? Best Regards Mike

Battery Drain Problems
luxtonm replied to brawlski's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
0.4 Amp, works out to approx 5 Watt, i.e. glove box light, vanity lighting etc, front door lighting etc. may be one of switches are stuck on. 0.4 Amp is too much as your battery would go flat in a week (approx 185 hours) assuming you've got a 75Amp/hr battery. Also just another thought, has the car got a third party radio fitted? Regards Mike -
2.8 V6 Galaxy 4x4 Running Hot?
luxtonm replied to luxtonm's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
had my v6 for 5 years and have had the same problem. i have replaced all but one hose on the coolant system (due to a leak) but the needle still creeps up near the red when in traffic. the thermostat housing on a mk1 isn't easy to get to. it is located under the coil pack on the right side of the engine. you have to remove the coil pack, battery cowls and a few other small parts to get access. it took me 3 hours the first time but i have it down to under an hour now. you should be able to find instructions in the faq section Thanks everybody for your info / advice Problem solved now, engine now runs with temp gauge dead center during normal driving, and in traffic temp reaches 'M' in 'NORM' and prolonged idle fan kicks in just below RED and quickly returns to center. Problem was the thermostat, took me about 4 hours today and 20 quid for stat and gasket. feeling quite happy now because I had a gut feel it was running too hot. Onto the ABS problem now - lol hopefully last job O' and the exhaust but I'll leave that to the people at quik fit Best Regards Mike -
2.8 V6 Galaxy 4x4 Running Hot?
luxtonm replied to luxtonm's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Mike, I have the same model and mine runs exaclty the same - it has never boiled over but sits around half way or dead center when I am driving but as soon as I get a bit of urban driving it rises up to the "M" in NORM and sits there, also the climate control in yours will mean the fans are always cutting in and out, even after turning off the engine. In summary - I think your car is normal for the model :16: Regards Darren Changed the coolant, bought a new thermotat but didn't fit it because I couldn't find the thermostat on the engine lol, would be greatful if somebody could point me in the right direction Running temperature still appears to be high, needle sits on 'M' in NORM under normal driving and reaches very top section of NORM (just below red) when moving slow in traffic. Still not sure if there is a problem  Towing a 1700kg caravan next weeked, I guess that will be test lol Best Regards Mike -
Hi, I'm looking for some advice please. Just purchased a Galaxy 2.8 V6 Auto 4x4, very happy with it, just a bit concerned about the temperature its running at. The temp gauge stays in the 'normal' section but peaks just below the RED, oil temp is approx 112-114oC The temp above is normal driving, bit of traffic and getting upto 60-70 on motorway, not pushing it hard Electric fan remains on for a few minutes after switching off the engine Is this the normal operating temperature for this car? or is there a problem Best Regards Mike
