  1. I'm wondering (before I begin) if a towbar off a mk 1 (1997) Sharan will fit the facelifted (2003) mk 1 Galaxy? Is there a way of finding out definitely before I start removing it? Thanks
  2. Hi all - newbie here - thought I'd get involved with this thread as I have possibly a dual mass flywheel problem (so my mechanic says). Need a second opinion (as scared of spending £800 or whatever that would cost) - could you help me diagnose this please? When driving along, above perhaps 25mph, there is a subtle beating/thudding sound. This happens when in gear, in neutral, and with the engine off coasting along. However, when just sitting idle, the engine sounds absolutely fine, no knocking sounds, or any variance of sound when the clutch pedal is down. All the youtube videos I've looked at about dmf problems feature engines that don't sound right when idling. Could this be something else than dmf? Perhaps wheel bearings (though sound doesn't change when I turn corners), drive shaft, cv joint, etc.?? Any thoughts please? Peter
  3. How important is it to use genuine parts on a job like this? Do you know roughly what the price difference is?
  4. Thanks - do you mean trade part specialists?
  5. I have a Mk. 1 Sharan which probably needs a cambelt change. I have a few questions regarding this, if you can help: Is it worth using genuine VW parts, instead of substitute parts? When purchasing a timing belt, do I need to get the whole timing belt kit, or just the belt? Would a garage change just the belt, or is it standard to fit/change the other things such as tensioners, or can the old ones be used? Any replies welcome Peter
  6. thanks for this advice - is it easy enough to get behind the dials?
  7. Hi - VW Sharan Mk I question, hope that's ok? Recently a hissing noise has started when the engine is running. It seems to be coming from behind the middle air vents inside the car, just above the CD player - so behind the fascia/dashboard. It doesn't change in pitch when I turn on the fan. It is a constant hissing and doesn't seem to be related to revving the engine. Looking under the bonnet doesn't reveal anything to me. Any ideas? Has a pipe come loose, or severed? Has this happened to you ever? Thanks Peter
