  2. Hi All And there I was thinking the hardest part about the repair is finding whats wrong with it but I was wrong it appears the hardest part is getting a new switch!!! Been to 2 ford garages, can't find it!!! W|HAT A JOKE!! So just been to VW and the part number is obsolete so they can't order a new one, they only order spares off of chassis numbers, don't have a micro fish...... AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!! So back home and on to this site to get the number and then back to vw ! Thks for you comments it has really helped solve the problem... cheers malc
  3. Guys, Sussed it seconds after posting.....if you pull the plunger hard enough it has an adjustable reach!!!!!!!! OH YEAH BABY !!!!!!!!!! Thks for Kevs help re the software, this one can be put to bed....... Cheers Malc
  4. Update...... Got my Vag-Com today and it showed brake swicth fault even though the brake lights working fine. Took switch out and found part of the pin assembly had cracked across a rivet, so soldered it as temporary fix to test it. Plugged it back on (but not fitted) and tested. Cleared fault codes and they didn't come back !!! Brakes lights all worked ok by pushing plunger , WOW I have done it!!!!!!! OR HAVE I......... When the switch is fitted again it doesn't contact with the pedal so the brake lights stay on all the time.............. Just doesnt make sense, I have not touched the switch part at all and when fitted the plunger looks the same length, ultimately I will buy a new switch as the old one was also getting hot but it just doesn't make sense, the plunger is fully out and the switch is sitting hard in the bracket... Any thoughts would help stop me going mad!!!!! Cheers Malc
  5. Hi Kev Thks for ur answer, any chance you could please post a link to the correct lead and software? Thks very much.... Malc
  6. Hi All As title really, on the way home the other night and engine workshop warning comes up and the glow plug light starts flashing! The car is running perfectly and the brake lights working fine. I have tried disconecting the battery to reset and ensure its a genuine fault, the warning came back. So i guess the question is whats the best way forward? straight to a main dealer or try to buy a lead and analyse fault myself...Has anyone got any experience with the ebay leads and software please? The car is an 04 plate mark 2....... Thks for anyones input.. cheers Malc
