  1. Reference to formerly chipped/remapped vehicle. ah, that's bad is it? Had it running OK for a few years now. Apart from strangeness when accelerating sometimes when it seems to have no power. Which sorts itself out when it's turned off and on again.
  2. yes, it starts Y587 I'm missing something here
  3. No a Y reg (2001)
  4. Thanks seatkid. I wondered if it was an airlock but I didn't know if the system was always that pressurised. But I've searched the forum and can't find a definitive way on draining / refilling. I've looked under engine and here is a hose about an inch diameter going to the bottom of the radiator at the right hand side. Is that the one? I've made a fool of myself before taking off some big hoses that I thought were going to the radiator and they were the intercooler or something. And then I've seen something about draining the rear heater matrix by taking off the rubber hoses to that under the near side rear door. If I take those off is that the way to drain, then put them back on and refill through expansion tank. Is there more to it than that? I can't get a Haynes manual for this one so struggling, normally able to muddle through with one of those. Guess this is the first thing to do but if the head gasket was blown would this do the same thing? I read somewhere that if the head gasket was blown some hoses would be hard not soft, but is that right? How do I know which ones to check? thanks for the help
  5. thanks I am in Didsbury. Alasdair
  6. Hi all I'm at a loss as to what to do with my Y reg Galaxy TDI. For a few months now it's been overheating when I go at higher speeds. Locally for short trips at 30/40mph never goes above 90, but for longer and faster trips it goes up and have to slow down and stop. Had the radiator replaced - no change. Had the water pump replaced - had those broken off plastic impeller blades. Seems to be worse now - before I had these two things done I could go 200 miles at 50mph without a problem with the heater on full blast, but now the heater just blows cold. I took the expansion cap off after not using it for a couple of days and the coolant just gushed out as if it was under pressure - is that normal? My garage doesn't know what to do next which is good in at least he's not asking for more money, but I don't know what to do. Can anybody suggest what I tell them to do? I don't really have the tools and stuff to do much myself. Or can anybody recommend a garage who's sorted out a problem like this - I live in south Manchester? thanks all Alasdair
