  1. Hi, I had exactly the same problem as this with my 2.3 petrol. Turned out it was a coil pack breaking down and leting unburnt fuel into the system. I discovered I had a slight and I mean slight missfire every now and again. It was so small that I could only hear it when the car was in the confines of the garage. Well worth a check. Hope this helps.
  2. Hi, I had a simular problem. The engine started fine and ran well but when idleing every now and again you could hear a slight missfire. Another symptom was were high fuel usage, even for a Zetec 2.3 it was high. Replaced both coil packs and leads and it was instantly fixed. I only found the missfire when I went for a new exhaust and could here it in the garage. It was so slight that I hadn't noticed it, didn't seem to make any difference to the performance either. So a pair of coilpacks and leads and the fuel usage is spot on. Also found it started quicker than before and sounds slightly smoother.
  3. Many thanks for this excellent guide. Had the same problem as many others, although intermittent it was becoming a right pain. Got the old relay out and replaced. Cured! Took the old relay apart and it had a poor joint, didn't look like it ever had enough solder on. Poor manufacturing as usual. THANK YOU!
  4. I know its late but I have another update. After fitting new sensors I found that one of the plugs on the inner wing was corroded which was the reason for the light not going out after the sensor change. Cleaned and sorted. Drove upto 20mph abs light off, brakes not vibrating and it stops! Thanks for all you help all good now.
  5. Got an update on the situation. Checked the front ABS sensors with the meter. got a fluctuating signal from n/s which is correct, o/s got nothing. Look to have a dodgy sensor on the front o/s wheel, so will replace once off. See what you mean about rusting on, going to be one of those jobs that should take 5 mins but with all the prep it will probably take a couple of hours. Oh well. I have replaced the strut tops as recommended, the old ones were a little perished. The brake disc's appear to have a slight warp in them so they have been changed. This job is clocking up to
  6. Thanks for that. I'll get the multimeter on it tomorrow and see whats going on. I really appreciate your help. Rik
  7. Hi Cyborg, Thanks for the info, I'll get the tracking checked out. Top of the struts sounds like a fun job, I'll have a look at it tomorrow. Might as well replace the rubbers while their off. Any ideas why the ABS light is staying on? Is there a way of testing the sensor to see if its working? Thanks again, Rik
  8. Hi Everyone, I really hope you can help. I am new to the Galaxy and have just purchased a 1999 2.3i . Its had all the usual problems, handbrake cables rotted etc but I have a problem I cannot sort out. The drivers front wheel brakes judder at low or high speeds its so severe that I cannot drive the car for fear of comming off the road. It happens about 99% of the time you touch the brake pedal. The ABS light is on. I have replaced the drop links (both sides) bottom ball joints and have looked at the discs but they seem ok. It seems more than that. The ABS rings are intact, perhaps a little dirty. The drivers front tyre is scrubbed on inside edge. Can anyone think of anything else to check out? Thanks in advance, Rik
