  1. I have a 2001 1.9tdi ghia and need to replace the front discs, i have had a quick look around on the internet and some places need to know if i have 300mm or 315mm diameter discs. Does anyone know which ones i have? my car is at home at the mo and Im not so cant measure them. Also does anyone know where i can get some discs and pads at a fair price? many thanks
  2. Ok so I cant sepll.... Apart from the noise there does not appear to be any other problem and as Andrew T says they sort of grow on you. A blowing joint may be a possibility, as I said earlier I have just had the turbo replaced. I will leave it for a week or so and see what happens, my warranty runs out in May so I just need to get it back before then.
  3. Here is a strange one for you to get your thinking caps on for. When I change gear and the revs drop I get a strange noise from the engine bay. The noise is best described as a fluttering whistle that slows and gets quieter. I think it may be coming from the turbo - the variable veins thingy - but I have only just had a replacement turbo fitted 2500 miles ago - under warranty luckily I believe it should have cost
  4. Can anyone clarify if I can put a 100w h7 bulb in my galaxy instead of the norm 55w. The new 'brighter/bluer' bulbs appear to come marked with a temperature rating of between 5000k to 8000k. What does this mean? as I have plastic lens covers can I get away with the larger wattage bulb. The reason I would like to change them is I live in a rural area and the farmers take great delight in leaving 2" of crud over the road and when this is sprayed on to your headlights its like driving with glow worms.
  5. I've tried this one also, my mate did the same and brought the shelf of e-bay and got the ford dealer to fit it. They had to cut holes in the sides of the boot to fix the shelf holders. Cant be to hard and if you get the parts from a scrapper you can see how big and where the holes need to be. Hope this helps and let me know how it goes, i might follow you Cheers Ian
  6. Thanks for all the help guys. Took the gal to the local garage had the battery tested and it failed. new bosch 4yr garantee battery on its way
  7. Thanks for that seatkid - i think
  8. have you checked the brake fluid? it may be a little low and when you apply the brakes the piston moves enough fluid to drop below the minimum level.
  9. Last week my gal wouldnt start, the engine turned over slowly and then just clicked! (solenoid I assume). Anyway i charged the battery for about 3 hours and at lunch time it started fine. Ihave checked the alternator which is giving 14.5v to the battery and I have had the battery tested which was also good. I am a little confused as to why I had the flat battery, as far as i know i hadnt left anything switched on and it wasnt that cold in the morning about 2degs. What I have noticed is that my headlights appear to become brighter after the revs go above 2500 and then dim again as the revs drop. Does this mean i am in for some expense in a new battery or alternator shortly? anyone have any ideas! Cheers Ian
  10. Definitely check your brake light bulbs. i had both fail at the same time and the glow plug light was flashing, also if you have cruise that wont work either. Ford say that the vehicle wont allow cruise to work if the brake bulbs have failed because it thinks the car cant stop.... weird or what
  11. Thanks Ivor, I guess I just needed a sense check, I have read all the other links and found that the heater didnt work even from cold on a freezing morning. I will kick some *ss in the morning. cheers again ian :o
  12. Sorry to go on about this but I need to know... I have a 2001 TDI ghia with climate control, will I definately have the extra heater to heat the engine coolant on cold days, The reason I ask is because Ford have my car at the momemt for some warranty work and when I said I dont think the heater is working they kept refering to the rear cabin heater and digital clock (which I dont have) or saying my thermostat is dodgy :o I have read all the links that refer to when and if it should work and the little exhaust etc but I need to be sure that i have one. :o My gal is a normal uk car if that helps cheers ian
  13. Thanks for the info Blatters. Spot on, my aux heater is not working so it is booked in wednesday for some warranty work. Should be ok for the cold days of january tho. Cheers Ian
  14. Hi all, I am a newbie but I dont think my aux heater comes on at all either, I am sure I would have heard this low flying jet Out of interest Where can the small exhaust pipe be found that the manual refers to for the heater? Ian :)
  15. Thanks I had thought about the thermostat and may change it anyway. My gal does not appear to get warm on tickover and possibly cools down!
