I have codes P1049 and P1528 that appear as soon as they are reset, I can keep doing this reset and the codes are back within 30 seconds while the engine is running but the car is stationary. I have checked the wires to the speed sensor on top of the gearbox, Looked generally around the wiring and checked for loose wires. Any help would be wonderful. Its a V6 so most bits are VW I guess

Problems: It all began when the off-side drive shaft split. I have since replaced that however the following problems now exist. The speedometer reads Zero, the fuel Gauge go's from the current level to zero and back as the level in the tank changes. I have the same problem but when I look at the diagnostics it said it was speed sensor A. It that one that is in the gearbox or is it on the road wheels? I dont think that the problwm in with the gauges but I could be wrong! any experts out there?

Hi, I have a VR6 2.8l engine type AYL which has a con rod out ot rhe side. How diffucilt is it to fit the AAA engine into the space (Galaxy 01 plate)and what changes are needed? There are a numner of AAA engines around but very few AYL so being able to fit the otherone is a desireable solution.

Hi, I have just purchased an 01 plate 2.8 ghia and owned a 2.3 mk1. the newer engine (2.8Vr6) has a con rod through the side of the block. I either need a second hand engin or... is it possible to swap the 2.3 engine from the mk1 till I can find a 2.8 at a sensible price? Any adviceis helpfull!

Thanks for that I willget the plugs out this morning and see what state thay are in. They were new as I had just replaced then when I found the engine dufficult to start. I will look at a compression test but my old compression tester wont go down the recesed spark plug holes so I need to get one that will!

To be honest you'd be better off on a VW Golf or Bora forum, the V6 engine is the VR6 used in a few VW's and those guys are far more likely to have ripped them apart :P There's also www.vr6oc.com Hi and thanks, I will try both of these ideas today!

Just got a new secondhand 2.8 ghia with a poor running engine. It wouldnt start so I charged the battery. I now starts but runs noisy and has white smoke coming out of the inlet manifold. there is a burning oil smell how can I check that this is a blown valve. I think thats what the problem is? I am a faily competent home mechanic but have not worked on this engin. any advice would be good!

OK so I have changed the MAF sensor and reset the ECU but I STILL have the same problem... Any suggestions, THE OBD now has code P1121

Hi, This problem is driving me mad. the original fault was that the engine occasionally idled at 2000 rpm. Then it started to not idle at all but die. I have replaced the plugs and the 2 coil packs and I have checked for leaks/ holes in all of hoses on the inlet manifold side. All made no difference. I have looked at the OBD and there are no faults! I have just purchased the Idle control valve at much expense and still the problem is there it fails to tick over and has a misfire at low rev. Any ideas much appreciated before I run out of money!!
