Hah ! The engine had fell off the pallet and had to be repackaged by TNT

Used 1st Choice Spares to sorce replacement engine, 2.3, got all the replies from breakers who could supply so bought one from WESTCOAST BREAKERS in Preston. HUGE mistake. Got a useless lump of an engine with a hole in the balance shaft housing. They blame TNT and as my wife signed for it its down to me, tough, nothing we or TNT will do about it attitude. Now for the BIG joke that made me laugh. I was at home on Tues for the delivery, the day they told me. It didnt arrive. It came on Weds. when I was at work. Why was it a day late then I asked ? Answers on a post card please. Be interested to see if anyone can get close to the reply I got.

Flywheel To Crankshaft ?
TheJugs replied to TheJugs's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I'm not quite sure what you're asking but . . . The crankshaft is part of the engine not the gearbox and is usually the same regardless of which type of gearbox is fitted. If a manual gearbox is fitted then a flywheel is used, for an automatic there is an adaptor plate instead of the flywheel. Both are bolted to the same crankshaft. Yes insider this is what i am getting at. I need a replacement engine in my manual g/box version and have sorced one close to me which is in a auto version. What I am trying to find out is if the crankshaft has the same diamentions in both versions, ie position of bolts to torque converter plate in relation to flywheel bolt positions. Is there a means to find out the part number for the crank, this would tell me if it is identical ? -
Flywheel To Crankshaft ?
TheJugs replied to TheJugs's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Its the 2.3 version. Also mine is not fitted with the EGR control valve, were these not fitted to all engines ? -
Can anyone tell me if the flywheel from a manual g/box can be fiited to the crankshaft from an auto g/box ?

The one's i've seen look identicle to the one in mine, have 2300 on the rocker cover, are in a Galaxy but it the coil packs are like the 2.0 version.

Is there a version of this engine which has a distributor ? I'm looking for a replacement engine, mine has the coil packs under the cover but I keep see-ing engines with what looks like a distributor where the four leads go on. Will this engine fit in mine ?

Many thanks for this info 'sepulchrave', much appriciated.

Does anybody know the engine numbers, I believe there is carb & injection variants, is there a difference between the engines ? When looking I have seen some with a block type unit which the plug leads are attatched to. I assume this is the carb version as its not present on mine.

I am currently trying to source a donor engine for my 1999 2.3 inj. Someone on ebay is advertising a 2.2 Zet engine, looks the same as mine, but is it ? Didnt think there was a 2.2.

no i dont think there is a subframe, i did a diesel one about a month ago on a galaxy i bought with a dead engine and there was no subframe on it, i put a new dual mass flywheel, clutch, slave, waterpump, cambelt kit and various other parts on it, it took about 12-13 hrs on my own, and it actually went in really nicely, i would take out the engine and box at the same time though as i do...... have fun Certainly will do thanks Roy

out the bottom always works well for me as long as you have got enough room to lift the car up when you drop the engine down! Thanks Roy, I assume that these are not like the Zafira and such like, and require jigging/harnessing when removing subframe ?
-
Thanks for the input guys, unfotunately I make you right. Is the best way to remove the engine by taking the front end off or via subframe off and through the bottom ?

New owner of a broken Galaxy say's hi and thanks everyone who is about to give advice on getting it fixed. :-) fings X'ed

I recently bought a Galaxy as spares or repair. It's the 2.3 GLX and the previous owner said the oil light had come on, pulled over, then engine wouldn't turn over. So before sourcing a donor unit i'm investigating possible causes and damage to current unit. So far I have removed rocker cover, all looks good, removed spark plugs, all ok, tried turning engine over via crank pulley, would only move 1/4 turn. Drained oil, came out really thick, removed sump, found what looks like thin metal shim like bits and plenty of smaller bits, removed oil pick up. Undone all the sump to block bolts so as it dropped couple of millimetres and now the engine will turn full cycles and blew the tissue paper out of the spark plug chambers, so has compression. I'm now thinking of removing timming cover, hopefully be able to drop the sump/balance shaft part off. Part of me say's keep going another say's just get a donor unit. Anyone got any thoughts or ideas ? When I purchased the vehicle I had it in mind to replace the engine but now ?????????????
