if you have a mk1 you only have one coil pack. car can usually run ok on 5, its when it runs on 3 that it gets rough. you need to check the plugs and leads first if you think it is running on 5. you need a really big healthy spark. if you haven't got one chances are that it will be the coil pack. i paid approx

My 2.8 V6 auto is running ROUGH! Acceleration with low revs rattles my teeth! I'm assuming that it's firing on 5 cylinders so would that be a plug or coil issue....i'm happy to replace myslef but not sure how to tell which is gone and dont want to buy stuff i dont need. I'm guessing coil as that caused the same symptons last time and the dealer replaced a coil (i think i'm right in saying there's a coil for each cylinder) help! Tiggs

its a 2002....just realised it's the engine with a coil per plug...in which case, where the heck are the wires? I'd assumed they were the wires that are attached to each coil/plug....but i guess not?

is it an easy enough DIY job? Looking under the bonnet the HT leads seem to leave the plugs then join a loom the seems to split off all over the place.......is putting in new leads easy? it looks mad!

So should ijust go and replace the leads and coil pack or should i (can i?) check they are the fault first - and should i do plugs while i'm at it....ie. are these are wearing parts that its good to swap out anyway or might i be spending lots of money (leads seem pricey!) when i dont need to? Mark

Had an indicated 187mph at the end of the straight at Spa.....hauled on the brakes pretty hard when the corner came up :D

My 2.8 V6 is running VERY rough all of a sudden.....vibrates through the engine at revs under 3k - i assume its firing on 5 cylinders and i'm hoping thats an easy fix with new plugs (i had it do this a couple of yrs ago and Ford fixed it) Credit crunch etc so i'm wanting to do the work DIY! Had a look though and how easy it is - the plugs have plastic caps on which i cant figure out how to remove ....and even if i do is it a simple job? Unscrew old plug, put in new plug?

Last week my "check brakes" light has been on 40% of the time.
