yea, ive jammed a socket in there to hold it up but still it's not going on, does it go on easily normally or is it always a pain?

ok so what am i doing wrong? i've fitted the new tensioner but the new belt doesn't seem long enough to go round the pulleys!? its about an inch short of slipping round the tensioner. The belt is exactly the same length as the old one and i've spent a couple of hours skinning knuckles trying to get it on, is there some kind of trick to it? any help would be much appreciated thanx
