Resetting The Service Warning

I have a 2001 MkII Galaxy Ghia 2.3l - I tried all of the above to no avail... out of frustration I simply turned the key on while holding in the odo reset, then turned the key off WITHOUT releasing the odo reset button, then turned back on again and hey presto.... all clear!! hope this helps someone out there!!
