Hi all, first post, so I hope someone an give me a helping hand, I wanted to start a new topic but I an unable to as a new forum member so please forgive me if this is a little off topic. My 1997 MK1 2.0 GALAXY Ghia is an old warhorse but is mechanically sound, I have been having a lot of problems with the ecu's of late (yes I know, common issues!) and have replaced both the wiper motor/ecu and the central locking ecu relatively cheaply from ebay. It now seems I have a non functioning ECM! (I think?) The symptoms: The car just stopped whilst driving along as if the car had run out of petrol. Upon inspection the fuel pump was not working (yes I did check to see if there was any fuel in it first!), the pump, all fuses and relays checked and all were found to be working fine. The first clue! A mechanic managed to bypass the ecm and get the fuel pump started but their diagnostics machine could not go deep enough to find out if it was an ecm problem or not. Attempted roll starting the vehicle succesfully and the car run but with limited power all warning lights extinguished when it was running, when placed in neutral the engine cut out. Is this a sign of non working ECM? When at a standstill and the ignition is turned on you can hear the fuel pump working and engine turning over but also a high pitched whistling sound as if a pipe is disconnected, does anyone know what this is? If anyone could help me out on these questions I would be grateful, also if anyone know of anyway to get this old warhorse running until I can sort out an ECM I would be grateful again! dan dan the troubled man
