Hi, just found this old message with really familiar problem description and decided to push it up... So, I've got a '99 2.3 Auto Galaxy (AG4 tranny) and everything has been working nice and steady except for the exactly same error as Ken described. So, the switching from 2nd to 3rd strokes quite a bit. I bought a VAG-COM cable and did factory-reset to the TCM. This fixed the problem, but only until the kick-down was used on the run! So, after a kick-down acceleration, the problem returned and after several kickdowns, the stroke went really afwul. I've been on a rough way with this problem, a new TCM is installed (originally i suspected that the TCM would be causing the problem...) and finally the stroke during 2nd to 3rd switch developed so rude that a pressure impact had blown away some plastic cap in the box's valve body, and it dropped the oil pressure of the box --> clutch packs, some solenoids and turbine are now renewed... And still, the same problem exists! I really don't know what to do now... Only positive thing (narrowing possible causes) currently is that I was checking the TCM parameters after another reset for the box. I tried the Kick-down and suddenly the TCM stopped responding for a few seconds. And later on, the idle value for throttle position sensor had changed (temporarily) from 4.x% to 7.x%! The one thing I'm yet about to do myself is getting a new throttle cable with the inline kick-down switch even though I find a little hard to believe that binary on/off information from kick-down would be somehow misbehaving. And if it won't help, I'll simply put a little pad underneath gas pedal, so that would mean no kick-down, but more reliable performance, If anyone has even a faint clue about this kind of problem, I would really appreciate Your help with this.
