How does the S-max compare for size? I do love the space in the Gal, and the folding seats in the MK3 are certainly appealing!

Thank you! I told my mechanic that I thought the run on pump was knackered because I realised never hear it, and he told me that it doesn't always run, and will only run at a set temp! I didn't think he was correct.... I'm not taking it there again thats for sure.

Sorry... 52 reg, MKII Ghia TDi

Hi, I currently own a MKII Ghia TDi 2002. Its a great car but its coming to the end of its life now. The new model looks great, but is it better than the MKII? I know the Gal MKII is basically a Sharan/Alhambra.... what about the MKIII? I have seen new Alhambras which are teh MKII still, so is the new gal totally a Ford one? Any advice welcomed! Thanks

Quick question with regards to diagnosing and fixing the run-on pump. 1. Should the pump be on from starting the car? Or even from turning on the electrics? or does the pump only start when at a set temperature? 2. How accessible is the pump for the average joe bloggs? I know where it is but haven't put any thought to how easy it would be to replace/fix. Many thanks

Help! Coolant Issues, Garage Can't Fix It!
ee0u30eb replied to ee0u30eb's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Ok thanks for that, i will look into the run-on pump. Our mechanic has never mentioned a run-on pump, are these standard? I can't help but agree on a blocked radiator after adding radweld, the RAC mechanic had the same opinion, however for some reason our garage just doesn't think this is the case. I think he said he tried blowing air through it and reported that it went through with some resistance, but that he would have expected some resistance?? If the radiator was blocked, would this cause the expansion vessel to fill back up with coolant when running? many thanks -
If anyone can help[ or suggest a fix to the problem below I would be very appreciative! 52 Reg Galaxy Ghia 1.9 TDi. The problem started with a coolant leak, it initially appeared to be under the rear of the car where two metal pipes were joined with a rubber hose. I fixed this leak with two jubilee clips. There still appeared to be a leak, the coolant kept dropping and so I took it to the garage. Initial diagnosis.... cracked expansion vessel. Had that replaced, problem seemed lesser, but still dropping on long journeys. Took it back to the garage, garage ran a dye test to see if the Head Gasket was gone, but no problems apparent. New diagnosis was that the pressure cap needing replacing, so had that replaced. We then drove 3 hours to Cambridge and the coolant went low again! So I topped it up and put a bottle of Radweld in (big mistake). 10-15 minutes later the STOP light illuminated, and the temp went to red. I stopped and opened the bonnet to find the expansion vessel full of coolant to the brim, I tried to release the pressure by undoing the cap, and it seemed to bubble away, but then filled back up (engine was off - there must have been some pressure forcing it back up). After letting the engine cool, the expansion vessel remained full and didn't go to normal levels. Called the RAC out and had to be towed back home. Car goes back to garage with the following symptoms: Coolant does not circulate... if engine is on the top hose isn't returning coolant Expansion vessel is full Initially the garage thought the pump was gone, but I wasn't convinced as that would not explain the abnormal coolant level, if the pump was gone the coolant could still return to normal level. I suspected a blockage from the Radweld. Mechanics then drained the system, checked the pump worked (it does), replaced the thermostat and thought they had found the problem.... an airblock. They then filled it up again and let it sit overnight. This morning they then drove it for an hour, got back and found the coolant had filled the vessel again. the mechanic now seems to have no idea what to do. Apparently he ran loads of water throught he system and checked it all came through (which it did) and he checked the resistance of the radiator by blowing in air. The mechanic has spoken to a friend who apparently knows everything about these engines, and he had witnessed the same issue in another Galaxy, replaced the radiator and it worked for a couple of weeks but then happened again. So to finish, my mechanic had no idea what is wrong and doesn't know what to do now. Nor do I! Please help me get it going again! Thanks

Hi, My wifes MKII Ghia gal is having a problem with its Air Con.... it doesn't blow cold at all. She took it to Halfords for a recharge but they said it didn't need doing as it was at the lower end of green. I have tried checking all the relevant fuses but was unable to locate 104 and 105, apparently these are under the bonnet. I have located the power distribution box under the bonnet, however the fuses here haven't got labels or numbers so I don't know if any of these are for air-con (they are all fine anyway). When the climate control is set to low, there is a hissing noise from the passenger side, somewhere near the glove box it would appear... what could this be? Thanks for any help in advance!

Thanks for that! I had been searching for specific bumper, hadn't thought of trying generic breaking! Found one black MKII, just need to see if the bumper is ok.

How easy is it to respray something yourself? I am confident that I could do the prep work to get it smooth, but not sure how well I could spray it. Anyone got any experience of this?

I am looking for a rear bumper for my black MKII galaxy (with parking sensor holes). I have been keeping an eye on eBay but to no avail so far. Anyone know where I can get one? I don't want to pay through the nose for one. What would be a reasonable price to get one resprayed for? For example I have seen a silver bumper on eBay for

Its ok.... I got the door handle covers off after reading another post on this forum. I've found a great looking plasti-kote super satin spray which I'm going to try out. If that works I just need to sort out the silver on the steering wheel. Any ideas?

When you say screw on the back... do I have to remove the door card first and then there will be a screw in there? Just been out to look at it and there is nothing obvious without removing the door card.

Hi all, been a while! I have recently had an accident in my Focus and so am currently driving the wifes Galaxy. Its in need of some TLC and I can't stand driving around in a car thats a bit tatty! So far I have fixed: Rear parking sensors Clicking door whilst opening Slow retracting seatbelts Coolant leak Blocked rear windscreen nozzle I now want to make some of the interior look a bit nicer. In particular the steering wheel is looking a bit tired as well as the part where the windows switches are housed. http://www.freeiphone3gsgiveaway.co.uk/images/p1000784.jpg http://www.freeiphone3gsgiveaway.co.uk/images/p1000785.jpg The part with the switched seems rubberised and so the only thing I can think of is to respray it with something else and forget about the rubbery finish. How can I remove this part for a respray? Is it easy? The steering wheel shows wear where the silver has rubbed off, any suggestion for improving this? Also whilst on the topic of the steering wheel, I recently had a new drive shaft fitted, and since then the neutral position of the steering wheel isn't straight. Is this something I can fix (I am no mechanic, but good at fixing things within my power). If thats not easy to fix I'll get it back the garage that put the drive shaft in. Many thanks guys
