I have been looking for this info (without buying Haynes manual!) as the diagram has been removed from inside the fuse cover on my wagon, so hopefully this applies to a 2002 Sharan as well.

Having been reading with interest most of the postings on this I am trying to locate one with the part number for a new glo-plug & bits for the heater on my Shazza. I am getting tired of being told my car is on fire. The heater works, comes on & off as required but quite often over the past couple of months whenever I stop moving I disappear in a fog bank of my own making. I therefore need the part no.s for Glo-Plug & Gasket set as I will probably need to dismantle & de-gunk the unit (I will buy the wife new toothbrush afterwards). Any advice &/or assistance eagerly accepted.

Has anyone tried uprating the brakes on a Galaxy (2.3 Si)? I do a lot of long fast motorway trips in the UK & Europe & am finding that even with new pads fitted the fade is noticeable, is sometimes alarming & can even be downright terrifying if carrying a load!! If any one has any experience of carrying out this type of mod (good or bad) please let me know. Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated. I look forward to your replies &/or comments. :(

Belt Tension Alternator Squeak

See earlier reply for this subject!!!!! The belt is easy enough but the tensioner is another task altogether (I am waiting for warmer dryer weather before I start getting down to it -- no garage just a driveway!!!) -
Belt Tension Alternator Squeak
Maggot replied to Mauser's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It is probably the idler wheel on the tensioner, the bearings wear & the wheel is crooked is rubbing on the belt causing the squeal. I have this problem myself & have had a new tensioner floating around in the back for a few weeks. To get to it jack up vehicle, remove engine undertray, remove aux belt, remove air filter box & connecting pipes so that you can se the end of the engine, unbolt idler wheel & tensioner assembly (one bolt), remove & fit new one (replace belt at the same time). --- then put it it all back together again. One day I will get round to it myself. - good luck. -
Brake pads on 2.3 Gals are easy BUT. ----------- Get the piston retractor from Halfords --- Soooo much easier!!! You WILL use it again. It took best part of 40 mins to do one wheel with G clamp & pliers, borrowed the retractor from a friend -- took 30 mins to do the other 3!!!!! It is a 7mm allen key for the front caliper mountings. ***********Have Fun************

This squeal is common on the 2.3, it's the idler wheel on the tensioner. There is only 1 belt on the petrol 2.3 & the problem seem to be that the bearing on the idler starts wearing causing the wheel to scrub against the belt as it rotates. Spraying WD40 or some other lubricant on to the belt ---sparingly---solves the problem for a short while. Only long term solution -- replace the tensioner assembly (parts approx

Engine Cutting Out --- Occaisionally
Maggot replied to Maggot's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
This one can be closed. I just removed the Idle Control Valve, cleaned all of the c@*p out of it (a good squirt of WD40) & made sure that the spindle & spring were moving freely. Refitted it & I have not had any problems for month. So ta for the suggestions. Cheers all Maggot :D -
Many thanks for the suggestions. It turned out to be one of the HT coils breaking down under load. A

If it is just cutting out when you lift your foot off the throttle try cleaning the Idle control valve, situated on top of the throttle body. I had the same type of problem (not quite as bad as yours) but by removing the valve & cleaning most of the gunky deposits from inside & around the spring & plunger this appears to have cured it -- it hasn't happened since! Good Luck Maggot

Sudden onset of lumpiness All of sudden the engine in my 99 2.3 Si has developed a 'lumpy' attitude. It idles erratically & is hesitant when accelerating. It still goes but not as well is it should. I have checked plugs-- OK. Looked at Injectors --OK (have been using injector treatment). tried all the sensor connections I can find -- all feel OK & no corrosion. Is this likely to be fuel filter or pump? It is now head scratching time, I may even need to resort to professional help & put up with the bills that follow. Anyone out there with experience of this type of behaviour from a Galaxy??? Any input appreciated. :( :(

Thanks for all the suggestions, looks like a busy weekend coming up. :D -
The clock has a bulb backlight -- you must CAREFULLY prise out the whole thing from the roof lining, the bulb is accessible from the back of the fitting -- same type as in the dash unit like a large xmas tree bulb.

Hi I am newbie on this site & already learned a thing or two, had the bus now for 12 months (99 2.3 Si -Silver --under the dirt). Commute 120+ miles per day, consumption OK'ish but I don't expect it to be that good lugging a couple of tons of metal around under the guidance of my lead boot! -- Its nice to be able to outdrag a few BMWs now & then at the lights. My problem -- sometimes when I have lifted my foot off the throttle to stop at lights & junctions the engine revs die right off & don't always pick up again, this may happen twice a day or twice a week but it is annoying having to restart the thing just when there is gap in the traffic or the lights change. The engine runs smoothly, idles at the right speed (no hunting), starts well & goes like a (large) rocket. HELP PLEASE I have also found that I am not the only on with a squeaky Aux drive belt, dicky reversing light switch & failed door locks (drivers door). ---------- So far no passengers wet feet !!!!!!!!-------- Cheers Maggot

Yurir Please let us know if it fixes the problem. My 99 2.3Si has the same belt squeal that come & goes with the weather despite having fitted a new belt only 3K miles ago. This fixed the problem for a while but it is back & it annoys the life out of me. I have taken it off a couple of times & had a good poke around all the various turning bits but can detect no 'play' in anything. Water Pump, sounds a costly garage job! Cheers Maggot
