Thanks treppid Considering getting one of these on Monday so your advice was very timely Cheers Paul

Excellent responses guys ..... thanks, I appreciate it. As you both infere ..... for 8 quid I might as well change the brake light switch. By the way ...... I have also noticed that I get the 5 long beeps when I turn on the ignition. The Gal starts fine and runs fine but I know the battery is not 100% since I left it for dead all those months ago, so I'm guessing that a better charge (or a new battery) will cure the beeps. Cheers again Paul

Hi guys My gal has developed the same fault ..... about 20 sec after ignition on - the pre-heat dash light starts flashing regularly - approx every second. I have been overseas for a few months and left the Gal parked up outdoors - when I got back this week the battery was dead. Charged it for a few hours and tried it but it was not enough and the dash buzzed & clicked when I tried to start the engine. Then I fully charged the battery and it started fine - but after about 20 secs the flashing light started. I have checked the brake lights ..... all 3 working perfectly. I have (provisionally) checked the brake light switch which seems to be working perfectly, so according to the previous comments - I guess tomorrow I should check relay K198 (wherever that is!). Everything else seems to be running fine - so I don't think it is a big problem - just bloody irritating (especially when driving at night). If anyone has any more suggestions - please speak up. Thanks in advance :D

I had the same fault on my Gal. I traced it to a break in the wire from the NSF sensor. Stripped the wires, soldered them back together and wrapped the repair in insulation tape - no more ABS light problems now. I hope yours is as easy to fix..... hopefully not a knackered sender. BTW, a VagCom would identify where the fault is.

Superb Brakes Just Failed Mot ! ! ! !
Karapaul replied to Karapaul's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi folks ...... one happy bunny reporting ! ;) Thanks for your advice/comments. I checked the vacuum pipes and could not see any cracks or open joints - but I couldn't see much of the pipes anyway! ..... so I just fiddled about with them with the engine running and luckily I heard a slight hissing noise when I moved one. By trial and error I located where I thought the noise was coming from and eventually found that the servo vacuum pipe was split where it connected to the servo. I cut off the last inch of the pipe and then (eventually) managed to reconnect it (after lots of heat treatment to broaden the end). A test drive then revealed no difference ..... so I repeated the "fiddle about" with the vacuum pipes and detected a similar quiet hiss - it was the same pipe at the other end. I repeated the process of cutting and broadening and the next test drive was great - brakes good every time. Success .... but the shortened pipe was now stretched to its limit and the connections each end were not tight - so I decided to get a new replacement pipe and get a re-test. Then I checked the MoT fail advice - it only allows ONE day for a free re-test !!!! (I'm sure it used to be longer?) so I whizzed down to my local VW garage. They could not find the pipe on their computer so we took the part number from the old pipe - yes, it is a Sharan part number: 7M2611932N. They checked the computer again, part not in stock!!! and it would cost about -
Superb Brakes Just Failed Mot ! ! ! !

Thanks MM ..... I will inspect the pipe tomorrow (hoping for a simple solution). Cheers Paul -
My TDi just failed the MoT today ...... only one fault - the brakes. They work fantastically well ....... (on the first press of the pedal) but if you re-press the pedal a second or third time, the pedal is hard and the brakes are crap! I hadn't noticed this fault before the MoT tester advised me about it. The Mot tester suggested that it might be a faulty vacuum pump ..... but that seems unlikely to me - because there is obviously a vacuum there to begin with. It seems to me that it is more likely to be a faulty valve or pipe blockage somewhere ? Does anyone have any suggestions how I can perform any kind of test to find out what the problem is please ? ...... funds are limited, so any help will be really appreciated. Cheers Paul

Hi galaxychap What year is your Gal please? .... pre-facelift ? I didn't think to check the RHS - will do that in the morning. Thanks
-
I had not heard of this towbar connector before .... so being curious, I searched for it on my Gal and there doesn't appear to be one ? ! ? ! .... despite the fact that mine is pre-facelift (99 Tdi Zetec). Am I looking in the right place? ... LHS rearmost compartment - big loom feeds the 2 power sockets, rear LHS light cluster, tailgate & interior load area light. Maybe I should wait to see Velcrohead's photo? Cheers Curious Paul

I've installed the 2003 & 2004 TIS s/w and I never saw that error message. It sounds to me as if you have a bad CD copy (corrupt or missing files). If you got it from ebay I would suggest returning it for a good copy or refund. HTH Paul

99 Tdi Zetec - Or Maybe Not !
Karapaul replied to Karapaul's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
I know I am lucky ..... Many years ago, I had the unfortunate experience of owning a slow, noisy, smelly diesel Ford Transit - with the notorious "Yorkie" engine. I remember it well .... it cost me a bomb in quickstart until it finally blew up - so what did I then do? .... I put a 3 litre V6 Granada engine in it of course! One good thing about the old Ford diesels - you never had to worry about undersealing them to prevent corrosion - the engine did it for you ! -
99 Tdi Zetec - Or Maybe Not !
Karapaul replied to Karapaul's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Thanks SeatKid Very interesting info - and reassuring too. So it looks as if I have been given some duff info (as I imagined - hence this topic) but at least I now know that I do have a "bona fide" Zetec 110 Tdi. I am disappointed that there isn't such a thing as a diesel Zetec engine - IMO Ford have played a dirty trick by using the Zetec name to describe an equipment/trim level that has nothing to do with Zetec technology. B*st**ds ! - they mislead me ... and probably many others ..... I know that I am not the only one with a wet back !!!!! Cheers Paul -
Just a thought .... the aircon only operates when the ventilation fan is turned on (any of the 4 speeds) - it doesn't work if the fan is not running. You should notice the sound of the compressor and momentary change of revs when the aircon "kicks in or out". HTH Paul

Vag Com In Wirral ?
Karapaul replied to Karapaul's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Guys Many thanks for your offers and help. Yesterday T120 used his VAG Com on my Gal and we immediately found the problem ....... G47 LH front brake sensor intermittent. When I removed the cable connector under the wheel arch it parted with the wires - they had cracked and split away at the point where the rubber holder ends. Today I stripped and soldered the ends of the wires and refitted the connector. First I was dismayed when I turned on the ignition :( because the dash warning lights went out one by one (as they should after completing their checks) EXCEPT FOR THE ABS LIGHT !!!!! Ignition off - wait a while - ignition back on - still the same. Maybe my soldering was not as good as I thought it was? ..... Go for a run around the block. After driving a few yards down the road the ABS light went off - EUREKA ! :( .... FANTASTIC. Now it goes out each time as it should after doing its self-check when I turn on the ignition. Thanks very much T120 As a result of this event, I have decided to get myself a VAG Com as soon as I have the pennies. Cheers Paul -
Hi Folks I have (what I thought was) a 09/99 1.9 TDi Zetec - that's what the logbook tells me. It's the pre-facelift older style. I seem to learn something new about the Galaxies each day - but each time it only opens more questions for me. For example, When I bought my Gal a few months ago, I was told by the seller that externally, although it does not have a Zetec badge, you can tell it is a Zetec by the red border of the TDi badge ........ since then a fellow member of this list has advised me that the red border has nothing to do with Zetec - it means 110 bhp ...... Which one is right ??? The seller also advised that even the Ghia versions don't have the "much sought after" Zetec engine. Recently I met someone with a 99 Ghia TDi and their TDi badge also had the red border !?!?!?! - (though it might have been an aftermarket paint job ?) ..... and the Ghia owner told me that he definitely did not have a Zetec engine but when he showed me under the bonnet, it looked just the same as mine. This prompts another question ..... What are the differences between a standard Tdi engine and a Zetec ???? A friend told me that the Zetec Tdi was twin cam ???? - mine certainly isn't ! ..... maybe I have been sold a duff Zetec - that isn't a Zetec ??? My Tdi Zetec looks original (including the motor). It has the usual Zetec spec (as far as I can tell): Roof rails, nice big, wide 7 x 16 alloys, tinted rears, aircon, 2006R radio/cassette, 7 seats ... but no towbar connector in the rear light cluster compartment as currently discussed in another topic on this forum. I can't see the engine number clearly but it looks like it might be the AFN type which I think denotes 110 bhp ???? I have checked TIS but strangely the Zetec Tdi Galaxy is not mentioned !!!! Why not ? Can anyone answer any of my many queries above please ? Have I got a TDi Zetec or have I been conned ? Cheers Paul
