Hi Mine did that when the temperature sensor was goosed !!! Mine wasnt an auto but its possible that its the same fault. If you know someone with VAG COM they will be able to confirm this for you.

Here for sale a brand new ...never fitted Mass Air Flow Meter/Sensor. Part number 0 280 217 121 06A 906 461 Its a Bosch item bought from Frauds not a cheapy Fleabay copy and I have the invoice for it so can be verified. It cost me 70 quid .I am looking for 50 quid plus p+p. Cheers Paul Was bought for a 2000 VW Sharan 1.9 PD 115 TDI but will fit other cars but check with dealer for suitability. Also still have a 215/55/16 tyre brand new for a Gal/sha/Alha

...and get loads of plasters at the ready cos there are loads of nasty sharp bits around there......ouch I remember it well 8-)
