Galaxy Tdi 90 1998 Sometimes Looses Power
ads81 replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The T-piece on the filter is a thermostatically controlled fuel return valve. It returns fuel to the filter when the temperature of the fuel is below/above 35 deg C IIRC (can't remember which way round though) and returns fuel to tank in the other condition. I'm not professing to be an expert in these matters, I just find it impossible to see how I can turn the car off then instantly try and restart it and it turns and turns for a good few seconds. But it never ever fails to start instantly from cold which leaves me thinking it can only be a tired starter or battery problem. Mine has covered less than 80k and been doing it since we got it at 64k, it has a service history like you wouldn't believe so shouldn't have that much wear considering these engines are good for 400k plus. As for the loss of power i've no idea i'm afraid. -
Galaxy Tdi 90 1998 Sometimes Looses Power

We have 1999 tdi 110 zetec starts on the button when cold but is a pig when warm, it seems to be relatively common on 110 engines and is a problem with no easy cheap cure to be seen if you follow this link My link or search warm start you'll see many have been there before you. Personally I just live with it, after all it's never not started yet! The day it doesn't start i'll give it some more attention. My only thoughts with drawing air are the car can be parked for a week and start instantly, so why would it only draw air on a warm engine? and where does the air go as the engine cools? i'd of thought that once the air was in that it would stay in. -
Does Galaxy Needs Xl Tyres Or Not?
ads81 replied to loukas's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
As said above go reinforced, my mk1 had some normal load tyres when i bought and it from the mileage on the receipts they didn't seem to last long. In addition if the car was in an accident and the tyres weren't found to be up to manufacturers spec then god knows what they'd say. -
Another Climate/air Con Question
ads81 replied to wackojackouk's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If its any use after replacing the low pressure fill pipe on my mark 2 the local a/c man said a temperature of 6-8 degrees was fine from the vent, the temp on the mark 2 was 5.6 degrees. Did the same test on the wifes 1999 mark 1 Galaxy and the temp was an extremely cold 2.5 degrees, not sure how relevant the outside temperature is but on the day in question it was about 19 degrees. -

I changed my receiver drier on Friday night after fitting a new low pressure fill pipe. Mine too was seized at first, my solution was to scrape as much clear as i could with a small screwdriver then i spread some pag oil round the outside to free it. I let this soak in for 10 minutes then used long nosed pliers to lever it free. Mine had the cap with 2 seals and to be honest it's in poor condition hopefully it will seal when i get the gas put into it.

Mk Ii Aircon Pipe Special Tool

i've been having similar problems with finding the special tool, I rang Euro car parts who say it's still available at -
When I looked into fitting 18's on my mk1 a year or so back my local tyre fitting company said if I was to go for 18's then the tyres would be safe load wise as all 18's are heavy duty. Your tyre company doesnt know what theyre talking about . All tyres have a load index on them and Galaxy`s need a tyre with a minimum 94 load index and they need to be either reinforced or extra load also . Any 18 inch tyre , or any tyre for that matter , below this load index is simply not safe to have on a Galaxy . What they said was that all 18 inch tyres are above the load rating required for a Galaxy and that the width of the tyre and also the profile of the tyre have a bearing on the load index. As for knowing what they are talking about they are a local firm established for over 40 years and a firm who'll tell you to bring a car back in a thousand miles rather than take your money there and then.

Central Locking Key Problem
ads81 replied to Nat's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi my recently acquired mk2 tdi Ghia gave the previous owner these symptoms and now ultimately won't work. i've noticed this item My link on Ebay and am tempted as the seller claims it suits a Sharan and in a msg he claims also the Galaxy and that the immobiliser is the same however my common sense tells me he's talking rubbish as he states its remote frequency is 434 mhz as opposed to 433.92 mhz. Am i right to leave it or is it worth a try? -
Diagnostic Connection Problem
ads81 replied to ads81's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I checked the voltage between pins 4 & 7 on the socket the voltage was below 7v so by Ross techs guidelines it isn't K-line related. Been through the fuse box all seems good there too. I've updated to vcds 10.6.3 it tries to connect but then hangs and says Controller uses unknown protocol Protocol Keyword $4004 I've been digging around on the net in general and read a suggestion on another forum that disconnecting every ecu in turn could be the only way to see what is causing the problem, does this sound feesible? -
Diagnostic Connection Problem
ads81 replied to ads81's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Mirez I think you could be onto something with the K-line, after fitting an aftermarket stereo in my outgoing Passat B5.5 the remote locking stopped working I pulled the electric aerial wire and all was good afterwards. I've just been out now and pulled the stereo out but it's not making any difference. Would you happen to know of other causes of this problem. I'm going to email the guy i bought it off and see if the locking stopping working coincided with anything else - climate control starting flashing etc. Would anyone Know if these cars have a comfort control module as in a Passat as i know they can fail, particularly if allowed to swim!! -
Diagnostic Connection Problem
ads81 replied to ads81's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
not as far as i'm aware it has factory stereo etc, i've just bought the car last week from a private seller 100 miles from here. the locking etc is a factory key, no handsfree kits or tow bars or anything like that. suppose pulling the stereo out wouldn't be difficult for a trial. -
Diagnostic Connection Problem

We tried it as a sharan too it is the AUY engine but we still couldn't get into it with any of the AUY variants selected. -
Having had 3 relatively trouble free years with a mk1 Galaxy I decided last week to buy a mk11 as well there are however 2 or 3 issues with it, 1. air con not working (no great surprise there!!), 2. remote key not working, With these problems i thought i'd plug in vag-com to check for codes, however i couldn't get a connection tried all com ports etc but no joy. Afriend called round with a new Snap On computer however same problem there no connection with any module on the car. Checked his computer on the mk1 and his Octavia and it was straight in no issues. So i was just wondering if there was a fuse or relay somewhere that may render the diagnostic port totally useless? Thanks in advance, Adam

Just noticed this topic but yes seats are interchangeable - as are the backrests and the seat squabs if like I did you want to keep the interior matching. an hour or so with some basic tools gave me an isofix seat for the middle of my mark 1 complete with lapbelt.

Also on a 1999 Zetec I got a Toad RK30 fitted by a local auto electrician about 18 months ago and its been totally reliable. Took about an hour for him to fit. I paid the extra for the Toad name and certainly haven't been dissapointed.

Mine is a 99 T plate - its just the same and is bloody annoying. I am of the opinion it isn't fuel dropping back as its worst when i knock the engine off for a minute or 2, if its left for a few hours it goes great. I have noticed a split air intake pipe which I am going to seal up but i'm not overly confident of a cure!! The suggestions of a low cranking speed from a hot starter motor mentioned in various threads sounds the most likely cure for the problem to me. But until the day it packs in totally it can turn as long as it likes!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi my 1999 tdi zetec 110 is awful at warm starting. My local dealer suggested recoding the ecu to auto instead of manual transmission. I have Vagcom and was wondering if anyone else has found this to be a cure to this problem and if anyone has any advice on how to carry it out using vagcom. Thanks.

Touching wood there are no problems as yet (i've never seen as many old receipts for services etc). Just looking to add some optional extras that i've become accustomed to in my previous car.

Hi all i've just purchased a 99 TDI Zetec 110 with a measly 64k on the clock and so far think its absolutely fantstic. Already looking to sort remote locking somehow for it and get some cruise control organised too. Adam.
