Just to update y'all - since replaced spill off pipes as they were perished and also swapped out for a healthy new battery to no avail and had to reluctantly book into Frauds for diagnostics .... seemingly it's a faulty ignition switch ??? Part ordered watch this space!

Dunno if they checked for error code ... will pursue. However with Easy start help it started and ran OK ... doesn't that tend to suggest an electrical/glow plug related issue? Battery is OK too FYI. Car had been serviced the week before by the same garage so filters are new and I had expected this to resolve the poor starting symptom that had begun to develop.

I'm a newbie with Deisels ... My 2000 (pre-facelift) 1.9TDI had become harder to start (longer cranking) before finally refusing altogether ... following some Easy Start to the air intake it started and was left at my local garage to resolve. They replaced two burnt out glowplugs and when it still wouldn't start suggested replacing relay 103.
