O.e Radio Cd Fitment
s2will replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I did this on my wife's Focus, (square 6000CD player from into the same size but rounded cornered double radio cassette aperture). I had to file the corners of the dash hole to open them up otherwise the 6000CD sits proud of the dash by about 10mm. It would be the same in the Galaxy ( I had a mk 2) . The replacement dash panel in the Focus was however only -
Copy of a post from today from the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health http://www.iosh.co.uk/index.cfm?go=discuss...ad=19808&page=1 " According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 60's, 70's and early 80's probably shouldn't have survived, because our baby cots were covered with brightly coloured lead-based paint which was promptly chewed and licked. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, or latches on doors or cabinets and it was fine to play with pans. When we rode our bikes, we wore no helmets, just flip-flops, or wooden Scholls, or black plimsoles and fluorescent 'spokey dokey's' on our wheels. As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or airbags - riding in the passenger seat was a treat. We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle and it tasted the same. We ate chips, bread and butter pudding and drank fizzy juice with sugar in it, but we were never overweight because we were always outside playing. We shared one drink with four friends, from one bottle or can and no-one actually died from this. We would spend hours building go-carts out of scraps and then went top speed down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into stinging nettles a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We would leave home in the morning and could play all day, as long as we were back before it got dark. No one was able to reach us and no one minded.. We did not have Play stations or X-Boxes, no video games at all. No 99 channels on TV, no videotape movies, no surround sound, no mobile phones,no personal computers, no DVDs, no Internet chat rooms. We had friends - we went outside and found them. We played elastics and rounders, and sometimes that ball really hurt! We fell out of trees, got cut and broke bones but there were no law-suits. We had full on fist fights but no prosecution followed from other parents. We played chap-the-door-run-away and were actually afraid of the owners catching us. We walked to friends' homes. We also, believe it or not, WALKED to school; we didn't rely on mummy or daddy to drive us to school, which was just round the corner. We made up games with sticks and tennis balls. We rode bikes in packs of 7 and wore our coats by only the hood (ahhhh the memory!) The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of...They actually sided with the law. This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers and problem solvers and inventors, ever. The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all. And you're one of them. Congratulations! We have had the luck to grow as real kids, before lawyers and government regulated our lives, for our own good. For those of you who aren't old enough thought you might like to read about us. " them were the days............. I never did get those brakes working on the bogey....and I never had spokey dokeys, just bits of plastic or card attached to my forks with a clothes pin to turn it from a grifter into a harley.

Well today I deposited a bundle of cash into the bank following the sale our much loved Galaxy. A change of job and delivery of new Passat Estate meant it had to go. New Passat is great but.....it aint no Gal. Couldn't wait for the new one and didnt want to compromise with another MPV so have the vw for 2 years. In speaking up for the high viewing limited posting majority I'd like to thank those who have helped/responded directly and posted solutions to problems. In my time of Alhambra then Galaxy ownership I reckon I've easily saved >

Flashing Warning Light
s2will replied to mrunlucky's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Well thanks to all previous contributors on this subject! I've had the flashing light for a week now - no brake lights - funny how that makes you drive very aware of who might run into your behind. Bought a new brake light switch yesterday ( -
Does the wee one have to be in the front? We always put ours (when in a rear facing maxi-cosi) in the seat behind the passenger with a big mirror velcro attached to the centre headrest. She was then easily visible through the rear view mirror. On the very few occasions that we needed to sort anything we just pulled over, sorted the problem and moved on. Dont know where the wife got the mirror from though, probably 'Innovations' or similar quality journal..........

Ok the laughing's stopped. :D Following the strip out it appears that 1- master cylinder has been passing leading to 2 - clutch failure leading to 3 - flywheel oveheating and distortion - not repairable. expected bill
-
did try that but once out of gear it refused to go back in, had to wait until the engine was off for a few mins and the pedal returned to normal. I'll report back once we strip and find the cause. stu

there's been no evidence of leakage (on the floor/ground) and the brakes seem ok, Its just (4 weeks ago) been Seat serviced so I'd have expected the levels to be ok. Unfortunately following another episode and near miss on a large junction its just been loaded onto a tow-truck bound for the local friendly repair man - quoting about 50% cheaper than Seat rates should it require major clutch work. thanks Stu

Hi, any clues before I resort to garage rates? There's a new dance going around.... The clutch on my otherwise great Y2K X plate tdi Alhambra has just started giving intermittent problems: everything is normal then -pedal goes straight to floor and will not engage any gear. :o -turn off ignition and wait period of minutes :D -pedal rises back to normal position :) -clutch ok for a couple of gear changes then goes to floor again  -turn off engine  -wait few minutes for pedal to return :D -repeat randomly :D -problem disappears for couple of days :D -pedal goes straight to floor etc etc etc :D cheers Stu

Alhambra /alpine Stereo Problem
s2will replied to s2will's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Halfords had another go - no progress, then their installers came to the house and went away....... got the aircon etc lights working but failed on the clock and trip meter. Booked car in with Morrisons Seat in Stirling for 60K service inc timing belt and aircon recharge. Diagnosed and fixed the stereo problem in 10mins without charge. Problem was a live link across the stereo peculiar to Alhambra's that the Alpine wiring effectively broke. Everything works perfectly :D . Morissons have been a Seat dealer for only 3 months but were excellent. -
I (well, Halfords actually) just replaced the standard stereo in my Alhambra (2001) with an Alpine CD multiplayer unit. Now when I switch off the stereo the aircon light goes out and, if the car headlights are on the central console panel lights also go out. When the engine is switched off the clock and trip meter reset themselves to zero. When the stereo is switched on the lights etc come on as required. Halfords are clueless so far, anyone got any ideas before I demand my hard earned back? The stereo works great! Cheers
