  1. I've got a Galaxy Mk 2 with a Central Locking problem. This is a little intermittent but I can go for a long time when it either works or doesn't work. Currently, having just got it back from the Garage, it doesn't lock either electronically or manually although it does lock momentarily when using the Key but unlocks itself within about 10 seconds. I've checked that all the other doors are shut and locked and they are. Currently I can neither lock the Drivers door nor unlock the other doors using the Key. Any help would be welcome.
  2. Many thanks for that I'l contact him immediately. Pete
  3. Thanks for the help so far. I've just contacted my local Ford dealer and can not get a handbook as they don't sell them once they stop making a model. So anyone out there with a handbook they could photocopy or scan for me? Also unless the car radio/cassette is included in that handbook does anyone have a user manual they could copy/scan. I asked about a tow hook for the factory fitted unit but they don't sell them. Any ideas? Pete
  4. Many thanks for the info. I've checked the car and there is no ball hidden so will go to the dealer and will do the same for the handbook. Any idea about hte plate for the stabiliser? Thanks
  5. Hi, my friend has just bought a Mk2, diesel, late 2004 Ghia (which I will probably have to maintain) which is missing a Handbook/owners manualand I wondered if anyone out there had one I could buy or knows where I might get one from. Also, it's been booked in to have a towbar fitted but having got it home today it already has a factory fitted model and electrics minus the removeable ball (at least I assume it is removable). So is it possible to get another ball? Additionally a plate to take a caravan stabilizer is needed and I'm told that you can get them to fit around a removeable hitch - anyone know if this is true? Finally, having got the vehicle home it appears that the passenger, rear, side window does not open unlike in the MK1 & MK3. Is there any kit you can get to make it open? Many thanks in advance
  6. I've had a Mk1 1.9 TDI Galaxy for aboutr 10 years and am thinking of getting a New MkIII. I've had a cursory look at them but wondsered if anyone out there could give me som details about internal dimensions. I use my Galaxy to take my dogs to Dog Shows and as such have to fir a double dog cage in the back. So can you tell me what teh floor to ceiling height is in the back and also what the width is. Also as the cage has to go in through the back what is teh size of the opening. Many thanks
  7. I'm very greatful for your help. Pete
  8. Many thanks for that. But can you tell me if it is true that if I dsiconnect the "brain" completely I will have to reset it at Fords and if not how do I get it out to ddry it. Pete
  9. Hi, I've got problems related to central locking. When I turn th key in the lock everything locks and immediately unlocks. I've posted the problem earlier but need a couple of specific answers. This problem is almost certainly due to a very wet footwell and I'm dealing with that and sugestions made relevant to an earlier post. Trouble is I'm going to Crufts tomorrow and want to be able to lock my car. So if I pull the fuse for the central locking will this allow me to manually lock the doors? Also, someone said that if youemove the power form the CLU under the seat that it has to be reset by Ford. Is this true? I've had flat batteries and blown fuses in the past but never had to hqave a reset! Somebody has suggested taking the CLU out and drying it in the house. How do I do this and will it need resetting after. Many thanks Pete
  10. Today I sprayed all of the electrics on the passenger side footwell with a moisture repellent. It hasn't cured the problem but id do get a delay now after locking the doors before they lock again and I also get a red flashing security light during theis delay which had disappeared before. I'm wondering could I take a fuse out so that can manually lock the doors. If so will this have an efect on any other systems? Pete sound like you need to check your wiring see links here and here They are both in the faq
  11. Hi I've got a Mk1 Galaxy 1.9tdi diesel and teh central locking is not working. I've looked at many post on this site concerning this but would jsut like a bit more Info. The passsenger footwell was absolutely soaking when this started but the scuttle drains are not blocked and the rear washer pipe doesn't appear to be disconnected. I've checked the ECU which is situated in a compartment under the passenger seat and there doesn't appear to be any sign of damp - I've even put in a sachet of silca gel and after two weeks it's still dry. I've checked the rear hatch and the gaitor carrying the electrics is split but there appears to be no damp in the electrics here. The gaitors on the front doors are intact. I've dried out the front footwell, as much as is humanly possible, using newspaper and the carpet is dry to the touch. So before I go through taking door panels out, checking looms or replacing the ECU and also because I'm going to Cruft and don't want to leave my car unlocked at the NEC I wondered if anyone can tell me: do the electrics for the central locking run under the plastic floor cover on the left of the passenger foorwell and if I sprayed them with damp start might this just solve the problem at least temporarily or is the just a lost cause. Pete
  12. Many thanks for all of your help. I think that I misunderstood when you said that the diff was a separate entity but required the removal of the gearbox as I assumed that it was fitted perpherally and wouldn't require the stripping down you mention. I assume therefore that if I get a secondhand or reconditioned gearbox It will have the diff in it. Pete
  13. Sorry, if I'm being a bit thick but If it is in the gearbox how can I decide that I need a new diff or a whole new gearbox?
  14. I din't know that there was a diff in the gearbox! To be honest I thought the CV joint did the same thing. Sadly I don't think that I could remove the gearbox myself so it would have to go to this small garage I use. Initially the noise made was a whine but it has now gone to more of a rumble. A bit like running along the rumble strip on a mpotorway. As the gearbox has to come out is there anything that would definitively identify it as the diff?
  15. I trust the garage and the owner who does some of the work himself. I've never had any problems with them, the work is always done really well and if I there are any problems they're happy to discuss them and sort them. But if I've laid out
  16. But could it still be the gearbox? I am going to have to argue the point with the garage and don't want to do so if it could still be a gearbox problem. I don't want to have to pay for a new gearbox if I can merely pay for a CV joint.
  17. I asked a question earlier on about a whine from the gearbox on my Mk1 1.9TDi Galaxy. At the time this was because I had been told by my garage that that was where the problem lay although I had taken it in because I thought I had a problem with a CV joint. I have been driving the car and the noise has got much worse and now sound a bit like driving over a rumble strip at high speed. However, I have noticed that the pitch of the noise changes with the speed of the car not the speed of the engine and in fact is still there if when the clutch is in or the gearbox is in neutral. Also the sound seems to be worse when going in a straight line or turning left but better (but not absent) when turning right. My garage is usually very good and never does anything that doesn't need doing. So is this likely to be teh gearbox or ist it a CV joint?
  18. Hi have a 1997/1998 Mk 1 Galalxy which has developed a bad whine from the manual gearbox. Is this likely to be fixable (I know that's a big question) or if not will gearbox's from Alhambras and Sharans fit and am I likely to find any difference in cost:? Any ideas on cost or best place to get one from? Anybody have any experience of Slick 50 for gearbox's. I suspect I won't really be able to afford a gearbox at the moment but plan on buying a News Galaxy next year when my Tessa matures so would really like to solve this problem as cheaply as possible (wouldn't we all). Pete
  19. Thanks for your help it's much appreciated. You're right it is a Mk1. However, I made a mistake when I said side light I meant Indicator light and I also want to remove the unit. Pete
  20. Hi, can anybody tell me how the hell I replace the bulb in the Front O?S fog lamp and remove the Frtont n/s Sidelight untit to replace the bulb? Pete
  21. I am posting this again as I think I put it in the wrong Forum before. I had one reply there form Bigjeez - thanks- suggesting that I use a wet and dry vacuum cleaner and dehumidifiers but I would prefer to remove the soundproofing. Having cleared my scuttle drains I now have to try and get the water out of the footwell. Can anyone tell me how to get the soundproofing out. Picturtes and step by step instructions woud be great but any help would be welcome. Thanks Pete

  23. I know everybody seems to have had this problem befor and that it is dealt with in many mails but does anyone have diagrams or pictures to help me find the scuttle drains. I know that it is possible to remove something in the wheel arch but it is not held in by screws so is not so easy all advice greatlyappreciated. Pete
