  1. its a purge valve, but does it affect performance if stuck open or closed?
  2. Andy, I think due to the limited number of V6's out in Galaxy guise its probably worth asking this over at http://www.vr6oc.com - good luck! Thanks for that Mirez very interesting when it comes to the V6 engine. Now a member of that aswell. Also forgot to mention I'v got a misfire but only at about 1000-1100rpm anything after that it sounds quite smooth
  3. My Gal has been lacking performance for sometime now, have changed coil pack, Cat, plugs n leads and Maf, also cleaned out EGR valve and blocked it off, changed fuel and air filters only last year. Changed the MAF 3 times because of fault codes 1st MAF cheapy from ebay, still showing faults, sent back got full refund. 2nd MAF Bosch from motor factors, still showing faults, (after checking out the wiring with thanks to Mirez), got it exchanged no questions asked. Finally at last the 3rd was ok with no faults, but didnt make any difference to performance or lack of it, instead (3 months down the line) I was getting fault codes for the OXYGEN SENSOR (something that Cyborg mentioned in a previous post of mine a couple of months back). Anyway after reading several posts about the OXYGEN SENSOR I thought I'd try disconnecting it, and yeh what a difference that made, much smoother and quite abit more poke but less MPG (connected 28ish mpg, disconnected 25ish mpg) by now I thought I was getting somewhere with the lack of power for the past 8 months, it just had to be the OXYGEN/LAMBDA sensor. New Bosch sensor from the motor factors £66, put it in (reset the ECU) and went for a spin and MPG went up to about 29 but the lack of power was back. I'm so fed-up now I'm thinking of disconnecting it again just to get the power back and leaving it that way, is that ok to do so? Oh yeh something else I nearly forgot to mention aswell was of more recent the tickover is jumping up and down abit but with the OXYGEN/LAMBDA sensor disconnected the tickover was quite stable. Its done 107k miles by the way. I'v always been able to sort everything out myself up until now thanks to this wonderful forum and you guys of course so I dont wanna give up now and have to pay a garage to sort it out. many thank for reading
  4. thanks for taking the time to check that out for me Mirez, I'll post back when I'v had chance to check it out
  5. hi mirez yeh sorry its a galaxy 2.8 v6 si 1999
  6. Can anybody tell me where the wiring loom from the MAF runs, need to test the wires only not sure if the loom goes directly to the ECU or does it go to the engine multi-plug (would be much easier). I'v changed the MAF twice (thinking the 1st one was faulty) but still having fault codes for the MAF, wanted to check wiring out before anything else.
  7. hi cyborg thanks for replying, Its definately not the clutch as the revs drop aswell. Good tip about putting light grease in the plug caps though but have checked and double checked to make sure they're seated properly. I have recently had it put on vag-com at my local garage and its coming up with fault codes for the MAF, did replace the MAF several weeks ago with genuine BOSCH one so I am thinking now it could be the wiring to the MAF as I have read a few write-ups about it, so I'll be checking that out next when/if the weather brightens up. I bought a new crankcase breather cost
  8. Hi everyone My 2.8 v6 has been struggling on the hills for sometime now, spent nearly 300 quid on trying to get it sorted, so far I have replaced ; Coil pack Spark plugs HT leads Cat & MAF but it still struggles on the hills althought much better on the flat, anyway on dismantling the air intake ducting I noticed alot of oil just before the throttle flap, does this mean that the crankcase breather is knackered and the misfire (more noticeable at 1000-1100 revs) is because oil is beening drawn into the inlet manifold, and could this be why it uses a fair bit of oil even though it does'nt smoke. Many thanx in advance
  9. Hope its the same for me, new maf should arrive today which cost £43 paying for just the sensor not the casing. Cars been flat on the hills for sometime now, iv changed the plugs, replaced the coil pack (because of several cracks) so hope changing the maf will make a difference. Fingers crossed. andy07 Well new MAF arrived, put that in and yeh it made a difference on the flat that is but it still struggles on the hills sometimes feels like its holding back and abit juddery. Thinking of changing leads next which are only 12 months old.
  10. Hope its the same for me, new maf should arrive today which cost
  11. hi mark same thing happened to me about 3 months ago, incase you need a new key give these a try quoting the number on the side of the key TRILLOGY LTD- 01280 822865 cost about a tenner including p&p.
  12. just an update in case it might help someone else out 1 day. still dont know what its called or what it does but took it out to clean anyway, whilst playing around with it i noticed a jet screw in one of the ends so i got a small screwdriver and gave it a couple of turns to tighten it (not to tight). anyway the pumping/popping sound has stopped, i can only presume the valve inside had worked loose over time.
  13. hi everyone i have a 2.8 v6 1999 gal. 1st of all im not sure if its called an anti-return valve but its mounted on the side of the air filter box (beneath the air intake hoses) via a rubber mount which it slides into and has a green connector plug attacted to it with breather tubes connected both sides, mine and for sometime now has been making a hollow pumping sound more noticeable at tickover but when i disconnect the green connector the pumping sound stops but engine still ticks over ok. just wondered whats its proper name and a rough cost just so i know how much to save. thanx guys sorry about the brief description only i cant see it in the haynes anywhere :P
