have a couple of friends that work for ford in colchester and one have done just thing im talking about on a mk2 51 plate. the only you could check is to look at subframe bolts and around the holes to see if any rust movement or even bolts r lose.

torque setting for wheel nuts is a must. it sounds like someone has over tightend your wheel nuts at some in its life. causeing the wheel bolts too stretch which will cause self tightening. change will bolts as a start torque setting from 95-01 140nm for alloys and 2001 onwards 170nm

be sure that the j fitting is wide enough too take the wider tyre or you'll have too much roll from tyres . and u will get very poor handeling.
