Revs Stay Up Until You Come To A Complete Stop
galaxy20 replied to jim4's topic in What thing irritate you about your Galaxy
My galaxy 2.0 does the exact same thing, but its not the ISV as i had a new one fitted due to it idling too low, so it must be something else. -

get some carb cleaner on you ISV if it don't help at least it rules the ISV out of the equation. -
When Should The Radiator Fan Switch On / Off

LOL! :D I would rather be neurotic and spend a few quid on a sensor than complacent and spend hundreds of pounds replacing a cooked engine. ;) -
Tatty Inside Door Handles
galaxy20 replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Good idea! ;) i have to say the worst parts on my MK1 galaxy are: 1. the door handle surrounds 2. the seat fitting surrounds. -
it seems my galaxy has had some issues regarding the cooling system, 1> I have now replace the temperature sender as it was not reading anything on the dash 2> replaced the thermostat and it was stuck open. my normal operating temperature now seems to be about mid way on the temperature gauge, (between the O and the R of NORM) however if i stop in traffic it stats creeping up past the R and on its way up the M, it goes back to about mid way when i start driving again but i decided to pull over today when it was up near the top end of the R and the radiator fan wasn't even on, i would expect it to have been at last on at a slow speed. do you think i need to change the fans cooling thermal switch?

Intermittent Stalling Problem
galaxy20 replied to galaxy20's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
only did a visual inspection, made sure the new one looked like to old one when i swapped it over, its the 2.0 petrol version MK1 galaxy. -
My fuel pump has been wining away for a while now so i got round to replacing it with one i bought from ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fuel-Pump-Ford-Galax...id=p3286.c0.m14 but now i have a problem as when i stop to turn of onto a side lane or stop at lights it will intemitently cut out, it will re start and run fine, its never cut out while driving only when coming to a stop or slowing down rapidly. i have replaced the air bypass valve recently as that was also playing up so that part is new, i suspect it may be the pump that i bought as it has a low pressure of 1.2 bar where i have seen other units on ebay that are 3 bar. i did not have this problem before fitting the pump, so am i right to assume it could be not be high powered enough?

Low Temperature Gauge - Need Advice.
galaxy20 replied to galaxy20's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
well i got round to changing the stat yesterday, there was one already in there and it must have been sticking. with the new stat in the temp gauge goes up and stays around the half way mark now, so its all looking good  -
Low Temperature Gauge - Need Advice.

LOL! Ill let you know Tuesday when i get round to fitting it. i bought a thermostat kit yesterday, new stat, sealing ring and gaskets from mills auto, cost me a few pennies of five quid. (bargain) -
Low Temperature Gauge - Need Advice.
galaxy20 replied to galaxy20's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Ill order a new thermostat tomorrow, do you think its still ok to drive as it is? -
i recently bought a 2.0 GLX galaxy 1996 petrol. Ive recently fixed a stalling problem by replacing the Idle control valve (AKA Air bypass valve) but also have a problem with my temperature gauge. i fitted a new sender unit today as i thought that was the problem, now the gauge is working but only reading a low temperature, about 1/4 right at the low end of normal when running, but if i stop in traffic for a few min's it will go to half way up or just over but then when i start driving again it works its way back to low normal reading. is this correct? i would assume it should sit happily about half way, what else do you suggest i check? coolant is circulating as the heating is working so i'm guessing there is no blockages in the cooling system, possibly a stick thermostat? any ideas ??

Need Help With An Idle Problem
galaxy20 replied to galaxy20's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I swapped out the idle stability valve (air bypass valve) and it fixed my problem, its idling perfectly now. A big thanks to the forum, without it it wouldn't of known were to look first, and at -
i think your right, basically the temperate gauge in the car isn't working so i need the engine temperature sensor not the coolant sensor, so i'm guessing i have the right one but just cant find where it goes, i ordered my Haynes manual yesterday but its not arrived yet so there is a lot of guessing going on LOL! ;)

i have two problems with my 2.0 glx galaxy, maybe they are both related, the first is an idling problem and the second is the temperature gauge doesn't work. i have ordered a replacement coolant sensor that arrived today, its a 2 pin fitment with a screw fitting on the other end, but as far as i can work out the my sensor is down the right hand side of the engine it has a 4 pin connector and push fits into a coolant pipe with a clip to hold it in place. q1. have i located the correct sensor? q2. are there more than one type of coolant sensors for the 1996 2.0 MK1 petrol engine?

my 1996 galaxy 2.0 glx has an idle problem, it starts up fine but if i switch on my air con or start to move the steering wheel (using power steering) my revs drop by about 250 rpm which can cause the car to stall, i suspect the idle stability valve (air bypass valve) i have took it out and cleaned it but it didn't make much difference, if anything its now maybe a little worse, could the ISV be knackered and need a replacement or could there be anything else causing the problem?
-
Ive just bought a second hand 1996 2.0 petrol glx galaxy and trying to get a feel for the car still, it has some intermittent problem like the temperature gauge working one minute and not the next, when its working its showing up at about 1/4, just below the "n" of normal, its this an accurate reading? what does your galaxy normally run at?
-
I took off the idle stability valve and gave it a clean and refitted it, it made no difference at all to the car stalling, still having the same problems. Something i have noticed today was the temperate gauge is only working intermittently, would a faulty coolant temperature sensor have anything to do with the engine idle speed?
-
thanks for your quick reply "seatkid" the reason i thought it may be the relay 30 is that i read a post saying that if the relay isn't switching properly then the fuel pump doesn't prime properly causing the fuel pump to wine and have intermittent cutting out problems. with the ignition switch on and the engine off then the pump doesn't make any noise at all, maybe just for a second or so when you first turn the ignition on, however with the engine running there is a wining noise coming from the fuel tank area, when you rev the car and the revs drop below idle speed the noise also dips to a lower/deeper toned wine then picks up again when the revs come back to normal idle speed, but if you rev it a couple of times the revs will drop right down and the engine stalls. do you still think i would be better off looking at the idle stability valve?
-
I have a problem with my 96 P reg 2.0 glx galaxy it will fire up but the fuel pump is moaning, after doing some searches i found the infamous "relay 30" topic, i tried to get a replacement with ford today but they got the wrong one in and are having troubles finding it on their system, so i took out the relay and re-solder all the joints the engine is still cutting out and the fuel pump is still moaning. symptoms 1. fuel pump is moaning. 2. on idle if i rev the engine it will dip down well below idle speed and sometimes completely cut out. i took the top of the relay and plugged it back in, i can physically see the relay switching on when the ignition comes on so my question is, do you think this is the relay 30 problem or should i try changing the fuel pump itself, or could there be any other reason why the revs drop and engine cuts out when revving from an idle speed?

have you checked the oil cap for any signs of head gasket?

Cheaper Alternatives To Galaxy/sharan/alhambra?
galaxy20 replied to markie's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
The previa's are nice, but make sure you go for the UK model not an import, the import spec is usually better, but i have never had any good experiences with imports.
