  1. right guys started to do car today only to find out that what was up with the car was quite scarey! all 5 wheel nuts were very loose.1 we had a new tyre put on 1 week ago on that side and it had got worse since then so they obviously didnt tighten the nuts as they shud! car has had new discs and pads anyway as they were getting low thank you guys for all your suggestions car seems to be ok now update after tomorrows drive to lichfield
  2. is there a way of checking a track rod end? we have just been for a some discs and pads and boy is it a lot worse now! it is clunking all the time now and not just on braking or cornering. we have had a pull on the track rod ends and they move at the bottm on both but unsur eif this is normal or not. thank you again. becki ps also when pulling off it clunks too.
  3. hello guys another questions please our car has a shudder when you brake that you can hear as well as feel under the steering wheel. also when you take the car on a corner that involve weight going on that wheel it will make a knocking noise . could this brake pads/discs? or are we looking at a more expensive repair? where do we start thank you in advance becki

  5. looked in the remote earlier and there is only one battery!!
  6. YES WE CAN OPERATE FORM INSIDE THE CAR WITH THE DOOR HANDLE WE have never been able to use the cetral locking from th ekey in the drivers door since we got it but the remote fob has always worked until now
  7. why wont our key allow us to open the doors from the drivers only from the boot!! so we wont need to have the immobiliser done to change battery? also will it need to be reprogrammed to the car once battery changed? thank you

  9. We have a remote key problem for the past few weeks th ekey has worked when its felt like it and sometimes you have to press a few times to get the key to lock or unlock. However after parking up in the multi story car park we went to lock the car and it wouldnt lock with remote. it wont lock the car from drivers door (it never has) we have to lock and unlock from the boot now! which is a pain. We have found how to change the battery but how likely is it to be the battery? the key fob makes a dim light when you press either the lock or unlock but we get no light at all from the drivers door light not even if we try to reprogramme? would it be worth trying the battery? or is it more like going to be the actual fob that needs changing and how will we know which fob we need to buy (looking on ebay there are loads of different ones.) thanks in advance again becki
  10. any ideas on what migh tbe causing this and how to remedy it please guys? Over the past 3 days its been hard and hard to getth ecar key to turn in th ebarrel to start the car and osmetimes it sticks and the key continues to turn the start motor until we pull it back. any ideas on how this can be fixed or whats causing it? thanks

  12. Regarding the exhaust paste question on the flexi pipe pre cat. would it be ok to use some exhaust bandage without the gun gum? or would it cause the same problems
  13. sounds like the transmission is going into limp home mode - max gear is then 3rd iirc ok so if its going into limp mode does this mean then thats its more likely to be a gearbox fault rather than maf? thanks
  14. hi there ok we disconnected the maf this afternoon and hubby took it out this evening only 15 mils away and it seemed overall better. (not bunnying out of the drive?) also temp gauge didnt go as high as normal either. but what we did notice was that the fan wasnt on at the end of the journey. (is this because the maf isnt connected?) it was working before we disconnectted maf.l or is it purely because the engine temp didnt go as high as normal. the 15 miles were done at a speed of no lessthan 60mp aprta from junctions obviously! we still have to check the oil in the gearbox as we are still not sure that its def the maf. anotehr symptom i forgtot to mention was that when the car does play up bad if we pull up and turn engine off for 1 min and restart it will drive as normal again for about 2 miles then start again. also once it was driving as normal and then it just had no power at all and nothing there when put foot on accelerator pedal. pulled over switched engine off for 2 mins started and drove home the next 20 miles. does all of this sound like the maf playing up or something more sinister? if it is the maf wheres the best place to get one for a 2.8 petrol the ones on ebay are for the tdi versions. thansk again in advance Becki
  15. ok so you are sayingthat the maf is all of the big black thing on the left hand side? i have looked at the removal of it on the tdi engine and its nothing like it on our car there is a plug into it that you just squeeze the sides and and pull it out is that it? does it all have to be removed or can it just be disconnected and left in place? will it cause any damage to the car running it disconnected? where is the best place to locate the auto box under the car? thank you again

Hiya we seem to be having few probs with our autobox in our 2.8i cd v6 it is changing at very high revs ie 4.5 can anyone tell us what the revs should be roughly at 60mph? its sitting at about 3 at this speed does that seem high. when we first start the car its fine and runs ok for about 30 miles then it will start this behaviour of not changing at the correct time instead it changes very high. and it will kick down on its on even on a straight. we are thinking, after reading a few articles on here last night that we could need to do an oil change in the box. could this help? any ideas anyone? thanks Becki

Hi there our auto box seems to be getting a bit mixed up it runs ok then when car is warm it does everything on high revs for a bit then it will calm down again then it will do it again. we have been tried to check the level in the auto box as it could be low as thats why it coudl be messing around like this. problem is we have had a good look round and we dont seem to be able to find the dipstick or where it needs to filled etc. any ideas we woudl be very grateful. we have a 1997 ghia x 2.8 cd v6 thank you in advance becki
  19. for some reason i cant start a new topic so i am hoping someone can help me on here our autobox has juststarted playing up changing up and down when it wants to not when it should. also taking a long time to change. was told to top up the transmission fluid. but where do you fill it up or check the level? we have a 1997 galaxy with a 2.8 cd v6 engine in it. hope someone can help us out. thank you becki
