  1. I have found the following link regarding a new glow plug but can you tell me if this is also suitable for a 53 plate Sharan 1.9Tdi? There is only 1 glow plug in the auxillary heater isn't there? Also have i correctly diagnosed the problem - cars not my strong point. I had a huge amount of white smoke pouring from the car especially when the engine was idling. I did a bit of research on here and removed fuse 11 (I think) which cured the problem as the auxillary heater now not working. Is this likely to be fixed with a new glow plug? I have asked my local garage to do it when i get the part - they haven't done one before but the posts seem to indicate that it is not too hard so hope this is the case - but any extra help would be appreciated. Thanks Mrs Turnip
  2. Quick question regarding the TDi130 recall. Does anyone know why the Ford recall involved cahnging the DMF and the clutch assembly, but the VW one only involved changing the DMF. Aren't these the same engine and clutch assembly? Cheers
  3. Thanks NikPV Found the chart. Very useful!! Printed out and armed with it, to take to the VW dealership in Cardiff. Will let people know how they respond. Cheers
  4. I have a 53 plate sharan 1.9Tdi. The middle button on the air con between air con and recycle is for the back vent. Is the air that comes out of that vent meant to be air conditioned? The garage say no but I think it used to be cooled air - now most definately not. (the temp dial for that vent is on cold) The air con in general is pretty poor and doesn't keep the car cool. Do you all find it bad? - I know there are general probs with the air con. Don't know whether to take back to the garage and insist they do something or whether the air con struggles to keep this size of vehicle cool. Thanks Mrs Turnip - who hates to bake! (in the sun that is)
  5. I forgive you for pointing out my ineptitude! lol ;) :D
  6. Of course I meant 225/55 not 115, although i'm sure it would have looked great with those 'skinnies' on it.
  7. Thanks for all your assistance. Turns out the Bridstone 195/60 R16's we refered to were re-inforced, just not advertised as such anywhere. The load rating was provided in very small writing as 97/99. The two numbers added to the confusion. We have now changed all 4 tyres to the size which seems to be more prevalent on the 16x7J alloyes which is 115/55 R16's. Having confirmed others calculations provided in a different post that will add 8mm to the rolling radius of the tyre, meaning that the speedo will read 70.26 mph when you are doing 70mph, well within margin for error anyway. The 4 Firestone's we bought (load rating 98) were
  8. The mystery deepens! Please see my thread about tyre sizes and see if you can help before I go to collect my new tyres tomorrow. Thanks http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=8077
  9. Would the unreinforced tyre also explain the really bad wear I am getting?
  10. Having done some further research just found this http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...ter&f=62&t=4991 Now forgive me because I am not good at all with cars apart from filling the tank - but does this mean that I could fit 215/55 16 onto my alloy wheels? I can't find reinforced tyres in my original size but they must be plentiful in the 215/55 16. My current tyres just say bridgestone ER30 H
  11. Ok just been out to check and the tyres as far as I can make out are not reinforced. I presume this marking would be fairly obvious and not tiny. Now I am furious. The rear tyres are as supplied when we bought it and I have replaced the fronts with exactly what was on there. I have been driving around for 2 years with my family in this!
  12. Thanks for those answers, I'm beginning to get a picture. We bought the car as an ex demonstrator from a Hartwell VW dealership. They said they had put on the alloys aftermark, and they were the ones for the 'Carat' model. Looking in the brochures they looked right. With our dealings with Hartwell (which I have documented in detail elsewhere in this site) I would rather have had the teaboy in Kwik Fit select the correct wheel and tyre size. My worry is that if a car is designed for R16 tyres with 55mm tyre size, then changing to 6omm would make the tyres of 10mm greater diameter, and put out the callibration of the speedometer and milometer? Any views?
  13. After asking on the technical section about tyres I am now a bit worried that my car was supplied with the wrong size alloy wheels. :( Can anyone help and tell me what is the correct tyre size that I should have on a 53 plate Sharan? It is fitted with 195/60 R16's. Many thanks Mrs Turnip
  14. Try ebay http://search.ebay.co.uk/galaxy-parcel-she...QfltZ9QQfromZR8 I think this is what you want. Other than that I seem to remember a picture of one that was home made with instructions. I think it was Ivor - however I can't find the thread, sorry. HTH :(
  15. Sorry I meant 195/60 R16 - seems to be the same as this so hopefully don't have the wrong wheels..lol! http://www.buyacar.co.uk/technicalSpecificationyq7766.jhtml
