  1. Hi Folks, I had a near miss tonight on the way home. I heard a thump and looking behind in the mirror thought I saw something disappear under the car behind. We both stopped and as I walked back the guy came out from behind his car rolling my spare wheel. I was astounded. I attach a photo of the end of the bracket so that you can check yours. Both of the flanges at the bottom have given way due to rust. I am just so lucky that it was a country road and speeds were moderate; the following car was a Freelander with high clearance (it just took out one of his fog lamps); the guy was so good about it. I post this so that you may check yours now, to avoid a catastrophic incident. Imagine if this had happened on a motorway!!!!! It could write off a smaller car or cause a major pile up. My Sharan is a 1998 model. How this had been overlooked by the garage during an MOT I don't know, but ultimately, I guess it's my responsibility. That's why I'm telling you guys... PopDorset
  2. Now, I wonder if anybody just happens to be an off duty police officer and can post the contents of yer average police galaxy!!! (Could take a week to read it...) ...now where did I put my inflatable traffic cones?
  3. I've got an interesting addition...a short plank...no jokes please, there's only one short plank... I got caught out with a puncture in soft mud in my old air-cooled 1975 VW van and now I always carry a plank to stand the jack on. Just a foot long piece of wood spreads the load really well...but ext plywood is probably better.
  4. Gulp... Why aren't all cars already fitted with one (or two!) ? I've carried one around for nearly thirty years...not the same one you understand...the powder becomes compacted...good idea to shake them up occasionally.
  5. (On hols now, so time for some stupid trivia... Where do you put stuff that you cart around the whole time? Stuff like first aid kit, spare light bulbs, reflective vest, bird cage, spare underpants I use the two rear lockers (sorry "boaty" type term) near the tailgate...great for bits and pieces... Are there any secret hiding places in your Gal where you might find, say, a set of Encyclopedia Britannica lurking? B)
  6. OOOUCH..!!! I bet that's hard over the bumps..^^^^^^
  7. Well done MO4!!! Stay safe over the next few weeks though...this is when you need to concentrate hardest. (Next step...Institute of Advanced Motorists? hope so!!! ) BTW the new cruise control works now, thanks to your TIS!!! OOOOH AAARRR!!! from Dorset Pop
  8. This is amazing...I picked up my car from Loders, Dorchester yesterday and service reception told me that they just did a service on another Sharan that had done...wait for it...288,000 miles!!! I thought he was kidding, but he showed me the papers. That's just about the same distance as from the earth to the moon. Pop (hope mine keeps going that long)
  9. Thanks for that SL! :D
  10. Great pics Blatters, thank you! Now that reminds me...[Pop scratches head... :D ] I think I have a pic I took out of the windscreen as the Barfleur ferry came in to dock at Poole last Summer... Oh yes here it is... :D Middle of the night, customs shed ahead, we're behind another trailer but ours wasn't carrying pigs.
  11. Can anyone confirm this? (because I am on the verge of buying a VAG COM lead for this very reason and, if true, means no deal!!) Pop
  12. I have read recently that long usb leads can give problems with data transfer. "Data starts petering out when transmitted through cables longer than 5m...If you must use long cables, buy an active extender or repeater cable. You'll find some online at www.askdirect.co.uk and other online outlets for around
  13. mo4 ... :P and you expect me to be nice after that......well! :D I'm shocked...naahhh. only kiddin...life's too short! mind you sometimes you want to ....I thought you were very restrained after a certain character gave you a mouthful on Sunday night (sorry I'll try to find another way of saying that) erm...he was very rude to you on here. :D "Just keep postin' postin' postin'" (apologies to...what was that film? Shark's Tale?) :D
  14. ...trying to look normal in Cornwall..as you do.
