how to clean MAF sensor? can you please give more details as how to clean it and what is carb cleaner? where to find it?

I have ford galaxy 1.9TDi, the problem is the 3rd gear stays for long and do not shift to 4th for long. to my surprise the gear works very fine at some times and some times it just don't. Please can any body have any idea what the problem is and hove get hands on it. Just let you know that i changed the oil which made no difference.
