Hi If the handbreak light is on check the fluid level in the resevoir, if it's ok you might need to adjust the break cable. Mine one day decided to stretch & the brake light stayed on it would go out if I pushed the handbrake lever down. The handbrake adjuster is just infront of the rear axles you'll need some mole grips & a spanner to adjust it.. takes around 20 mins to do..depending on your size u might be able to jack up one of the rear wheels & slip under the car to reach it..

Mk1 Brake Light Problem
cell replied to Bigjeeze's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi... My brake pedal switch fails on a regular basis bout every 6 months.. It usually starts with the brake lights showing on the car display on the dash. I can make the switch work by reaching under the dash & pushing the arm up & down a few times to free it up.. it seems to stick a little bit when using the pedal for repetative short braking .. then it'll pack up completely a couple of weeks later. I've found there are 2 different designs after taking them apart.. one works by pushing the contacts together when u use the pedal, the other is spring loaded so it releases the contacts. The one that pushes the contacts together usually melts one of the terminals causing the switch to fail, This one cant be fixed as it's impossible to repair the contact tab. The other kind doesnt melt, but the grease inside melts & stops the switch making contact properly, This one can be cleaned & used again. I ended up fitting a small 12volt led into the raised brake light housing so I can see clearly when the lights are working. Not sure if this is what your problem is but its the cheapest place to start, usually around -
Cruise Control Not Working
cell replied to Bob1100's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi... there are a few posts in the forum on which parts to check & where there hidden.. If you work your way through all the pipes & pump & it still doesnt work you might have the same problem I did.. The wires in the control stalk from the switches had broken. I had to remove the control cluster off the steering coloumn & carefully remove the Cover with the cruise control switches on. It just clips on, I found 2 of the wires had broken. A quick solder & it was fixed. Took me ages to finally find that as no-one seems to have had it happen to them or posted anything about it. Hope ths helps a lil. Regards Jimbo -
Cruise Control, I Need Great Help
cell replied to paolone's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Take the top cover off the steering coloumn & check that the wires that run into the stalk (that has the cruise control buttons on) haven't broken just as they go through the hole ontop of the stalk. Mine had so i had to take it apart & solder the wires back together. Hope this helps -
Swapping 5 Speed Gearbox For 6 Speed
cell posted a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Had my 2.3 Ghia X gal for a while now & dont like driving over 70 as the revs are so high  .. It is nice to have the power but was wondering if it was possible to swap the gearbox to a later 6 speed one. I've seen a few on Ebay for sale from late TDI models but not sure if they're compatible with the 2.3 engine.. been looking through the forum but couldn't find any topics about it.. Hopefully someone might know... -
Hi....Just wanted to add my discovery onto this post... I decided to try to trace the wires from the control stalk to see where they went... I found the wires from the CC controls ontop of the indicator stalk box & noticed that the red & black wire were broken right at the point where they go into the stalk tube... Heres how I repaired it.... I had to remove the whole assembly from the car so i could repair the wires..I carefully cut the black protective sleeve off the rest of the wires to allow them to move, then I undid the clip holding the connector to the assembly. Then I used a small screwdriver to prise the button off the front of the stalk & then carefully prised the outer cover off the stalk itself (theres a small hole in the back where it clips into). Once this was removed I slide the button assembly out while feeding the wires from the conncetor into the hole. This allowed me to strip the wires & solder them together, a quick reverse of the process & all done. Still haven't got the light to work on the dash, but it scarred the hell out of me when it did work, thought the throttle was jammed as it didn't work instantly. I hope this helps, I did have to replace the pipes from the pump & checked the pump for corrosion but it didn't fix the problem till I stumbled on the broken wires... Broken wires seem to plaque Gals, maybe ford should've stuck with the overkill wires they used to use in older cars. One less thing to fix.

Resistor Pack - Repairable Or Cost?
cell replied to Saturbo's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Wish mine was that easy to fix.... My Gal has Climate control which flashes for 15 secs..thought the resistor pack might have a problem so I phoned around some Ford dealers & found one for around -
Hi .. In the forums there are alot of people using Vag-coms & Workshop CD's from Fleabay.. Had a look & there seems to be alot of different ones to buy, can anyone tell me which they've found to be the most use.. Hate buying stuff from ebay just incase it's the wrong type or it turns out to be completely useless, sellers aren't too quick to offer refunds once the items are opened. I have a T reg Galaxy 2.3 Ghia X it has a slight mix of VW parts as i've found out when trying to get the heater blower regulator from Ford, ended up going to VW for parts advice. If anyone needs the Red Capped regulator with the rods get it from Ebay for half the price. All help is greatly appreciated

Well i've been reading all the posts i could find about CC faults.. I've managed to replace the pipe from the pump to the white pipe & the other end near the air intake to the T-Piece under the dash...I still dont get a click or light on the dash when i turn it on..When i got my gal the fuse for the amp/stereo was removed as it was causing the battery to die( only found out after i put it back in & tried to start the car the next day) I'm unable to figure out which fuse powers the CC from the fuse card in ther fuse box, the symbols arent the most clear & i dont really want to buy a haynes just for one fuse. any help would be much appreciated.

Lol..I'm still waitin for the picture fairy to bless me with the ability to look at pictures at the mo :( ... I'll just have to put the gal onto ramps & see whats under thr... might only make a tray to cover anything near the belts..wouldn't hurt to have some protection around that area anyway.. A friend of mine managed to get a screw in his cambelt on his cossie a few years ago so if i's not a big job it wont hurt.. Jst leaves a massive list of other things to fix now

Hi .. I'm new to owning my Gal  ..had a mondeo & found forums to be a God send when it comes to fixing common problems with diff models of vechiles... Anyway have read the various replys to the steering pump belt issue & was wondering if there is anyway to make a replacement tray as mine doesnt seem to have one & I dont fancy getting into the same situation if mine went when i've got the family in the car. I'm guessing that there are some fixing points underneath to attach the standard one..might try to make one out of some sheet aluminium as i seem to be missing the rubber diffuser from the bottom of the front bumper aswell. :(
