  1. Bought my son a 51 plate Ford Focus which needed a new starter motor under warrenty which was promtely replaced. This was all through a leading main agent although not a ford one local to us ( Honda Main agent , part of same group.) Went on E Bay and obtained a progamme to give us the radio code which we needed as the previous owner had not left the key code in the drivers pack. Cost me
  2. this site should help you with what you need to know http://www.tyres-online.co.uk/
  3. I have a towsure towbar fitted with removable ball which was easy to fit and has caused me no problems as yet http://www.towsure.com/default.asp?d=0&t=0&p=0&op=

Kerbweight is 1724 Kg for 2003 Zetec and the nose weight should be 85 Kg and max towing weight 2000 Kg all this info is available from Handbook and Sales brochure from ford Showrooms Max Recommended tow limit @ 85% = 1465Kg I Tow a 16 Ft 1200 Kg van with no problems at all Hope this is what you needed
  5. Went to collect my new rear wiper for my Galaxy TDI So thought i would get some oil to top up when i eventually need to! So asked for a 1 litre bottle and was presented with Ford Formula E SAE5-30 "Sorry but thats not the right oil for a Galaxy TDI" Should be Formula SD SAE 5-40 Well was told by the parts department staff that Formula E is what we use on all the Diesels and Petrol vehicles that come here. So asked them to check on computer and they have ordered me some Formula SD which i have been told they only have at ther Bristol depot So has the Spec for 2003 TDI Diesel Gals changed or is the Ford Main dealer wrong If any one knows better let me know so i can put the Ford Agents concerned to Shame on this great forum site
  6. Well ok if your galaxy is not the revised model !!!!!! Ovol clock is class in a world if digital problems
  7. Well went to Halfords to get new 16 inch wiper blade for my 2003 galaxy and they are not listed on there on shelf cats, So asked at service desk and have been told the blades they sell will not fit. So now have ordered one from Ford main dealer Any one had this prob before ??
  8. One of mine came off ( Due to me cleaning some glue residue off with white spirits probably fron a delivery sticker ) I bought some trim tape from HALFORDS but found the trim came off again so had to re do it, next time I used Super glue to help the trim tape bond to the plastic trim and it has bonded solidly now
  9. My galaxy had first service and when i checked oil same day and about 5 miles later it was black also, I have been told by a mechanic friend of mine ( Seat Trained ) that this is normal for a diesel almost straight away. Probably cheaper to have the oil replaced at a while you wait service centre than go through the worry and cost of finding out if its old oil
  10. lamp failure warning light stays on untill you press brake pedal so it checks brake light bulbs
  11. not the middle of no where Middle of dashboard top !!!! :D :D :D
  12. I also looked at the "others" and chose the galaxy but in a 6 seater option to make for roomier seating all with armrests. The Gal has for me exceeded my expectations to date but i'm sure when something goes wrong that may change !!!
  13. maybe the fault may be with the turbo !!
  14. With normal pump diesel i get 43 mpg around town in my 2003 115hp pd gal any more and i will have too much money !!! lol
  15. Just because a product has been sold in great numbers is not proof of quality or reliability, and should not be judged to be so. The main purpose of Advertising is to make us want and buy a product. Slick 50 is an uneccessary item to add to a perfectly servicable engine or gearbox and many similar products are created to make us believe they will improve are lives .....This is not so !! Example If you fit a fuel saving device to a car it will usually give you a better return on your fuel consumtion ........ because you will be driving more economically making the fuel saving device seem to work. Justifing to wasted outlay in the first place so i suppose ironically they do save you money!!
  16. some towbars can be converted to removable types ie Towsure and witter check with the manufacturer and or installer. My Towsure towbars came as a fixed towball bracket and was easily converted to a removable one as i was aware of the reverse parking sensors before i bought it so got the removable part from the start, but if i put the fixed ball part on the the bar the sensors detected it and beeped all the time
  17. Thats right ivor...The boot socket is only 10 amp a fridge / battery circuit on a 12s socket is usually fused as 15 amp on its own !! I suspect the 12n socket is wired to rear socket as well and this is fused as 10 amp. The trouble with wiring to the battery is getting the wire to it, I ran mine on near side under carpet / door trims and rear aircon box but getting to battery was not easy, Found a grommet on bulkhead and installed cable's through it enclosed in a heavy silicone tube to make sure it was well protected from the body shell with fuse's secured close to battery and when im not towing i can remove them.
  18. A Caravan 12s Secondary circuit should be wired directly to the car battery via a relay which will cut of the power when the engine is stopped. The secondary supply supplies power to the caravan fridge and also to an onboard battery in the caravan if fitted so it is charged from the car alternator when engine is running. When i resently purchased a Towbar kit every supplier i asked told me not to run power from boot power supply. The Kit i eventually used was from Towsure and there technical department was very helpfull and relays supplied easy to install.
  19. anyone able to reccomend a good ford dealer in Stockport / Macclesfield / South Manchester area coz i need to have 10k service done on my 1.9 tdi galaxy
  20. just wanted to add a little reason for a "debate" to get a balanced opinion! It worked This forum site is by far the best one around and may it stay that way My TDI is still brill but so is my 19 year old 323i BMW
  21. According to my handbook for my 2003 tdi 115hp i quote "Do not use RME (bio diesel) except in the case of those proprietary diesel fuels which contain a mix of up to 5% Ford can accept no resposibility for damage caused by RME (bio diesel) in concentrations greater than 5%" Also the hand book quotes .........The prolonged use of addatives is not recomemended So Buyer Beware !!!!!!
  22. Used my 115 hp tdi ghia as towcar for first time last weekend with 5 adults, luggage and 1300kg caravan and it tows very well. returned just over 30 mpg i feel it was better than my previous car a 2.9i Scorpio
  23. The seat is a great car but the design and style of the front and that of the Sharon dos'nt come close to the looks of the galaxy, Long term ownership of a ford far exceeds these other makes for back up and cheap parts etc Rick
  24. Well Nimrod BMWs break down and when they do it can be very upsetting when the bill arrives. My neibour has just been given a new S60 Volvo to replace his V70 T5 Estate , A car much favoured by the police, But after 24 break downs in 8 months ( is this a record ) he had just had enough. I expect any car i own to fail at some time and with the current trend in the way cars are built they can only be repaired by Main Dealers or garages that invest heavily in technology. I have for many years had a Classic car in one form or another and they are a joy to work on as they can be easily repaired at home. Yes I just wanted to let people know that Gals can be Good as well as bad
