  1. Thank You Chromedome, I'll give it a try
  2. The latest problem in my Galaxy's journey has started. We now have various warning messages coming up on the dashboard, but they vanish when the ignition is turned off and the car re-started. First message was engine workshop! When that went out the handbrake applied light came on. Today we have STOP check coolant level, but again, this resets when turning off and on ignition. Anybody had anything like this before? As with all problems with this car, it's likely to be the thin end of the wedge and I'd like to try and sort it before it escalates
  3. I got around to sorting this out. My "Hedgehog" is the red type and costs
  4. Ah, that sounds promising, hopefully that's what it is....Thanks
  5. 51 Plate 1.9 TDI Ghia with climate control. Yesterday the Mrs smelt an electrical burning smell in the car, and the climate control started flashing. She was almost home, so parked a fair distance from any houses and walked the rest of the way in case it burst into flames. When I checked it out, there was a funny smell, more like electrical equipment overheating, not burning. I ran through the climate control, which seemed to be working ok, but noticed when I turned the front blowers on full, the 2 outside vents (nearest the front side windows) were really strong, while the middle 3 vents were hardly working at all. I removed the climate control unit and the smell seemed to be coming from the unit. Is it possible for the unit to be the cause of the problem, IE, limit the airflow to the centre vents only? I notice that Ebay is full of units for about
  6. Checked Fuse 33 and that was not the problem. I followed the steps for relay 30 on the FAQ page, and accessed the relays in level 2. Fiddling with relay 26, I managed to get it to repeat the noise it was making originally and get the wipers and blower going again.
  7. Ok, so this morning we have no wipers. I did post on here a few years ago regarding fuses for wipers but the post is no longer on here? Anyway, if as I suspect, it is a relay that has blown, does anybody know what number it is. The short noise that it was making in my original post has stopped, so I'm confident that will be it
  8. I've had her from new, and I've never heard it before?
  9. No, it's not the run on pump, it's coming from the fuse box by my right knee. The noise last for about 1 second
  10. I'm getting a short whirring noise when I turn on the ignition. It doesn't appear to have any effect once she's started, but I think it may be rear wiper related.....just a hunch.....any ideas 51 Plate, 1.9 TDI Ghia, manual
  11. Just an update on the Injector loom problem, it's been a couple of weeks since I changed the loom and so far no problems, fingers crossed to the end of that saga!
  12. I tackled the injector loom today and thanks to you guys on here, there were no unexpected problems. Pipes was bang on with the costings, with Fords wanting
  13. I have recently changed both driveshafts with pattern parts sourced from motor factors. I had another problem with a tyre (Michelin) that had de-laminated and caused a wobble that has been sorted now. The problem I'm getting is on a fast roundabout, right hand down and under acceleration, I get a thumping noise from the front N/S corner. Is it likely that this is driveshaft related or could it be to do with the roll restrictor bar? I have had plenty of issues with the drop links in the past, and I'm pretty sure that it's not them. The noise is speed related in that the faster you go, the quicker the thumping and it's not a metalic sound, more a dull, rubbery sound. I only get it when turning right, under load. Any ideas people? Car is a 2001 TDI manual Galaxy 120000 miles
  14. So it's rocker cover off, and clean up some sort of wiring connectors under the cover, is this an easy DIY job?
  15. Yes I thought it was a very good price, he was at it for about 6 hours and that price included gaskets, very nice bloke as well, and he used to work for the local Ford main dealer before going it alone! Your right about the gentle driving, The Mrs uses the car for four school runs a day, and the weekly trip to Asda, so it barely gets a chance to get warm. If anyone in South Essex (Thurrock) needs this work doing, message me and I'll pass on his details.
  16. I found a local mobile mechanic to remove the EGR valve, inlet manifold and Turbo, clean and refit, all for £230. The EGR was in a terrible state, as was the inlet manifold, but the Turbo was causing the problem. The vanes could barely be operated using a screwdriver for leverage, but once the turbo had been cleaned, they could be moved freely with just your fingers. The work has solved the limp mode problem and it was money well spent if you ask me. Seatkid's Italian tune ups may be a short term fix but there is no substitute for a bit of good old fashion elbow (Acid) grease.
  17. 51 plate, Mk 2,1.9 TDI. I was driving along yesterday at about 70 in the old Galaxy when suddenly there was a vibration as if I had a puncture. I slowed down to the point where I could tell it wasn't a puncture but having recently changed both driveshafts, I thought it was a CV joint gone. I pulled over and stopped and instantly realised the vibration was from the engine, and not the drivetrain and thought, S**T, this is going to be expensive. It was as if the engine was running on 3 cylinders, and the vibration was unbearable, like being in a washing machine. I switched her off, and started thinking about getting towed home, when I tried to start her up......and she started with no vibration and run as sweet as ever. So could this of been a blockage in an injector that cleared when the engine was switched off, or could the computer of brought this on due to a malfunction of some sort. I have driven about 100 miles since it happened, with no repeat, so am I out of the woods, or is this the start of something expensive? Steve
  18. So the old Gal has started with the intermittent limp mode caused by the 17965 Turbo Boost Pressure Control fault code. I seem to be getting resistance from garages when I ask for a price to remove and de-coke the turbo, to the point where I suspect they don't want to take the job on. Has anyone had a garage carry out this work, and how much did it cost, and more importantly, did it cure the problem? There seems to be plenty of posts on here, telling me what the problem is (My car is a 51 plate 1.9 TDI 115) but I don't feel confident enough to take the job on myself. I would idealy like for someone to reccomend a workshop in South Essex that know how to take my turbo out and give it a good scrub up, without removing too much wonga from my wallet. Steve
  19. Thanks Cyborg, when I right click on properties, compatability, and check the compatability box, I have : Windows 95 : Windows 98 / ME : Windows NT 4.0 (service pack 5) : Windows 2000 Nothing for xp. Is this because I'm running xp?? And the scan that mine is performing is just trying to find the ecu?????
  20. Ok Peeps, just spent another 2 hours mucking about with this to no avail. With the lead plugged into the car (The little blue led on the plug, lit) in options on vag com, when I set the port to port 3, a message says interface found. When I click on any of the modules, ie engine, a screen comes up with the details of the cars computer (I presume) which is blank, and then it starts scrolling through tests, starting with 1.1 to 1.7 then 1A- 1F having 4 attempts at each. Then it does 2.1 and on to 7.1, then up to 7F, you get the picture. It's as if the vag com is searching for the cars computer but can't find it. At the end of the search, it doesn't give any screen to say it's done it, just the screen that it gives you before you do the search, saying click here to start. All this takes nearly 2 hours, so i'm convinced I'm missing something. Help
  21. Yes, even tried with the engine running
  22. MMmmmm, I,m not sure that's the problem, The port seems ok, but just can't connect with the car. I went into device manager (At least I know where that is now!) and tried changing the port number, but it kept giving me a message saying the port is being used by another application, and changing it could cause other problems. Whats with the BAUD thing?? I left the laptop connected to the car for 2 hours and it was scrolling through various connections but still couldn't connect. Anyone got any other ideas?
  23. I have bought a lead from Ebay to connect my XP laptop to my Mk2 1.9 TDI 51 Galaxy. When I initially opened the vag com with the ignition switched on, the laptop could not see the lead. I changed from com1 to com3 in the options panel of the vag com and it found the interface. Now when I try to scan, vag com can't find the ECU. It's version 409-1 and I searched the forum and found people changing settings in device manager, well I can't even find that......Doh! Any help guys
  24. Well the issue is sorted. If it happens to anyone else, there is a way out of the problem, but it's not pretty! With the door card off and the protective foam out of the way. just a small portion of the white plastic motor housing can be seen. You can just about remove one of the small phillips screws that holds the lid down. Force a large flat screwdriver into the motor housing and basically smash it open and rip the gears and motors out from within. Hey presto, the door opens! I wouldn't of attempted this without knowing for sure the electric motor was the problem and already having the replacement part in hand. Hope this helps someone out in the future.
  25. 51 plate Galaxy tdi ghia, off side rear passenger door is locked shut. I started getting problems with my off side rear passenger door a few weeks ago. Sometimes it would lock as normal from the remote key and sometimes it wouldn't. Checked all the wires in the door boots and they check out ok, so finally got round to taking off the card and checking the latch. The problem seemed to be the electronic lock motor, it was recieving voltage but not locking every time. So I clipped the panel back on and found a complete latch and motor on ebay for
