  1. Well we bought it, 03 gal ghia tdi 115, lots of gadgets and starts and runs like new, only done 31k with fsh and the guy I bought it off put 12 months mot, recent service, a cambelt change and put the new tyres from my bammer on free of charge. Paid top dollar (
  2. Hi all, thanks Dave, SWMBO is dead set on an alhambra/sharan/galaxy having driven a (rubbish) alhambra for the last few months. Any idea what those problems cost to sort out?? We have decided to invest a tidy sum into a (hopefully) reliable motor - hopefully we'll be lucky!! I guess that all cars have their inherent problems - so they are all a gamble, I must stop being such a worrier! Whatever we buy Ford or VAG i think this site is cracking and will continue to read avidly and post whenever i can!!!
  3. Thanks gregers, Price seems a bit high, but i'm sure there is room for manouvre! Thinking about it, as it's 5 years old it's due a cambelt change anyhow. Incidentally, the car belongs to the owner of the local garage, so may have some bargaining to do to make the most of his mechanics!! btw, are galaxy's more prone to problems than any other car in the world, or is it just that i'm looking for problems to put me off?!?!?
  4. Hey, thanks very much guys, it is in fact owned by the local garage owner (not dealer, just mechanic), so although I haven't seen the history (yet) am fairly happy cos i know the owner. New cambelt doesn't worry me, not sure the wife will manage 5k miles a year! what are the symptoms/price for a driveshaft replacement? Is
  5. Hi guys I am hoping to join the club, and have just viewed an 03 plate galaxy with only 31k on the clock, its a 1.9 tdi Ghia 110bhp and the guy is after
  6. Hi New here, just having the same problem as others, I have an Alhambra 1.9 tdi 110, so wondering how you got on. Problems as follows: 1. Temp gauge goes up after a run 60-70mph for 45 mins, sometimes to warning level 2. Apparent loss of water after most trips (e.g. 2.5 pints after 50 miles@60mph in two trips or half a pint after a local trip) 3. No significant smoke/steam from exhaust 4. No mayo on oil filler cap. 5. No apparent leaks in radiator or hoses 6. System appears to relieve lots of pressure (sound of water draining to bottom of system) when header tank cap is released. 7. Fan seems to kick in as it should. 8. Heater works, but have a feeling it may only work when turned to max I'm inclined to think it's a head gasket problem but nothing seems to stack up and don't want to take it to a garage and get roped into replacing radiator, water pump, thermostat and hoses before realising what the real problem is. In addition, have just realised the head gasket was replaced in April last year - could this have failed already? If anyone can shed some light on this (along with some potential costs) it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance Neil
