This problem has just happened to me on the A1M and as far as I know its not uncommon so I expected to find the answers in the FAQs or search but no! so hence this post, sorry for having to ask a ,no doubt, very common question..why?.

Faulty Fuel Gauge That Seems Impossible To Fix!
darton replied to darton's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I'm afraid I chucked the old one away! whoops, but I will go over the earths again and at the plug as you mention, might even try bypassing the loom just in case a wire has been rubbed somewhere under the carpet! -
Faulty Fuel Gauge That Seems Impossible To Fix!
darton replied to darton's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Checked all that in general and cannot seem to find a problem with the bulbs or earths! Can any one tell me if a cluster from a 2.3 petrol Galaxy would be compatible to fit my 1.9 TDi (same years 2000-2002) the code on the new one is YM21 10849 AJC on the existing one its YM21 10849 ARD...Thanks -
Faulty Fuel Gauge That Seems Impossible To Fix!
darton replied to darton's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I've replaced the cluster for a different one, and it does exactly the same thing, straight up to full, everything else on the new cluster also works perfectly, so I'm guessing either a wiring fault or this incompatibility issue that I have heard of between the the sender unit and the cluster!..anyone got any ideas of what I should do next? can the cluster be re-programmed or checked somehow?..Neil -
No Power, Mis-firing, Black Smoke, Juddering
darton replied to taylor2's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Mike. Has this problem continued all the time over the 4 months or does it sometimes run ok and then come back again? sounds like another case of the dreaded injector wiring loom syndrome! (But cannot be sure without more info)...cheers -

Faulty Fuel Gauge That Seems Impossible To Fix!
darton replied to darton's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
<BR><BR>Correct on both counts, corrupt data will be erased with a cluster "reboot" - normally its a little more then that though but you''ve nothing to loose by trying it.<BR> Thanks Mirez and all, I'll give it a go and let you know results,...Cheers chaps -
Faulty Fuel Gauge That Seems Impossible To Fix!

so its a sort of "gauge by wire" sooner than a direct electrical link to the sender unit? In which case Cyborgs answer may stand a good chance of working!? (Iam a bit of a novice at the electricals so I am totally reliant on all your info!) Oh and another thing,Paul, was your problem solved when the cluster was plugged back in? thanks. -

Hi all, The fuel gauge in my 2001 Ford Galaxy 1.9TDi PS90 has never worked properly since I bought the car a couple of years ago. It generally reads full as soon as you turn the key what ever the amount of fuel, it will eventually drop to the correct reading after around 300 miles (but not always), sometimes it even reads correct when you turn the key,so long as there is no more than half a tank full.I have replaced the fuel tank sender unit for another but to no avail,it immediately read the same way as when the the old one was fitted.I could change the cluster but I have heard that may not stop the problem either, due to a known compatibility problem. the rest of the cluster works perfectly, its just this darn gauge!I have no choice but to fill the car every time so that I can reset the trip count to zero so as to know roughly how far I can get! If any one has any fixes or info it would be very welcome :angry2: Cheers chaps

Running Rough / Misfire
darton replied to taxidave's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Ive just done this very job to solve the very same problem as you have! but instead of replacing the piece of loom (£100.50+ vat from ford) I washed the whole loom in petrol then spray all the connectors with switch cleaner, put it back, problem gone,so saved a lot of money and agro! :angry2: -
yes, you've just explained the problem, I could do with an exact position to look for as I have looked all around the underneath of it with no joy, all i can find is:- WWO O2N 301 10 030 and no one in the trade seems to recognise any of this code! a picture would be great! thanks mate :(

Can anyone tell me if you can find and read the gearbox ID three letter code while it is still in the car?, I'm having right problems trying to get a gearbox without this code :( ,could someone please point out where to look? cheers

Low Constant Droning Noise
darton replied to darton's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Yes, everything from to the output shaft in the gearbox to the diff. Thanks Sparky, ..I thought that was the case,I'm a little worried that after all this money and work replacing the shafts,CVs etc it could still make the noise!! :( oh well, we'll see! -
Lets Us Know What You Think Of Yours
darton replied to jkspoff's topic in What thing irritate you about your Galaxy
The bloody ventilation system is my big gripe! ,which, is woefully inadequet for a car this size ,..seven people on a cold, wet winters day and the car is undriveable, its like a mobile Turkish bath! but at least its got aircon!! yes, above 6 degrees! and thats only if it works properly in the first place! All design features that are built in from day one that really get your back up! because they know about them over the years and just ignore them and pass the cost of their ineptitude on to you!all things so obvious should be a recall! Reversing lights on the facelift MKII,.."Lets put some silver domes over the top of the bulbs so they don't cause glare to other road users"!! how about, lets make them bright enough to be able to see where you are reversing !!...your reversing for goodness sake! how long are they going to be on for?...geess. OOoo, I needed that! After 5 years of Galaxy ownership,I love the car,It drives like a dream, its comfortable,spacious,pokey,reliable,likeable,mmmmmm....just...something better about it! :) -
Have the belt changed, for peace of mind if nothing else,BUT...This is one of the few occasions you must buy Ford(as explained by willie) ... My brother (old school 50 year ford mech) insisted, do not scrimp with this one! have the job done properly using the specified parts!. on top of everything else.. I'm having mine done and I have not even checked it,but I'm not going to risk another year! dont forget, by now, most MK II's will be scrap value if it snaps, let alone the danger or inconvienience!!

Low Constant Droning Noise

A quick footnote to the problem,...Do the orbital planetary gear cogs and the main diff cog keep meshing and turning while ever the road wheels are turning? -
Low Constant Droning Noise
darton replied to darton's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks Guys, I'am making some headway now. Ive got the finis numbers for the parts from Ford and I'm looking into VW supply for the parts as they seem to be cheaper than Ford!. It already has the newer bearing bracket fitted so I will probobly change all the parts just to be sure, thanks for the info on what to lookout for. I'll post again on completion, which may be a while, thanks chaps  -
Low Constant Droning Noise

Ive done a bit of research into the driveshafts and intermediate bearing, I'm going to change the two front shafts and all the CV joints (just bought them),and hopfully, the bearing and/or intermidiate shaft as well..Now I have heard..that this intermediate shaft and bearing weighs in at a hefty -
Engine Codes And Vin Numbers!
darton replied to darton's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Nice one Gav, good to know I'am properly insured for one thing! I did have this info all the time, just had'nt got a clue where to look for it :( thanks -
There seems to be a lot of confusion about actually finding out what kind of engine you have in your Galaxy! I have just searched for FAQs on the subject and still do not know what engine is in my car! its a 1.9 TDI 2001 6 speed manual MK 2 ,but I cannot find what the HP is (90 110 130 etc). The letters on the cam cover are ANU, anyone got any ideas?.. could a special area be made on the site with all the engine codes listed? cheers..Neil

Low Constant Droning Noise
darton replied to darton's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks to some great help, my radio now works!! :D As for the noise, does anyone think it could be the center CV joint on the split half shaft? (divers side). While I was checking the center support bearing (which is ok) I hand turned the half shaft into the gearbox and the large gaitered joint move slightly rotationally, but the half shaft to the wheel was totally stationery,it also made some metalic sqeaking noises! is this a possible cause? hope someone could verify, cheers...Neil
