  1. Thank you everyone for all your help! Just an update on whats happening...it is the compressor that has given up the ghost, I have ordered a new one today and it should arrive Tuesday. Then just a matter of it being fitted and fingers crossed there will not be anymore problems.
  2. Hi Insider, thanks for your response. I really have no idea what caused the first belt to fail. I had flown back from a funeral on Thursday night, drove home from Stansted to Colchester. Next morning I started the engine put it into reverse and the steering wheel would not turn so I assumed it was the power steering, I checked the fluid level and it was fine. The mobile mechanic came out next day and found the belt was snapped, he was surprised there had been no warning light or any strange noises, however after fitting the belt it was noisy. I was able to use the heater until yesterday, as soon as I put it on now the engine stalls. Even without putting the heating on it makes strange noises. I just can't understand how it went from working to not working without any obvious signs of a problem.
  3. I have a Galaxy Ghia 2.3 Auto. The drive belt snapped and had to be fitted with a brand new one. The mobile mechanic got a replacement one from the local Ford Dealers. He questioned with them why the new belt was wider but they said it was the correct one. He mentioned to me at the time that the tensioner may need replacing but was okay at the moment. Since being fitted it has been making a terrible noise which he assured me would cause no problems. I was driving home yesterday evening and feeling a bit chilly so I switched on the heater. As soon as I did this the engine stalled. The car drove okay so long as I did not switch on the heater. I have spoken to the mechanic this morning and he has told me it could most probably be the air conditioning unit needs replacing. Does anyone have any other ideas about what the problem could be? I find it strange that up until the orignal belt snapped the heating/air con was working perfectly! The mechanic is coming tomorrow to have a look...I really do not want to spend out huge sums of money on something that does not need replacing and may not cure the problem. I would appreciate anyones ideas.
  4. Wondering if anyone can recommend a Mobile Diagnostic Mechanic in the Colchester, Essex area? Since needing to take the battery out the car has been playing up, i.e chug chug chugging along trying to change gear then all of a sudden she runs lovely then back to chugging again. Garages charge the earth then make you feel you have to have any work done with them...Maybe thats me going on a guilt trip and would feel terrible to go elsewhere.
  5. I have a Galaxy Ghia 2.3 Automatic it is a 1997 R Reg. Over the last couple of weeks been having problems with the car struggling to change gear from 2nd to 3rd, the revs drop and go a bit erratic. On one occassion the revs shot up to over 5000 before changing gear. Today have taken it out of drive and went through the gears 1st OK 2nd OK 2nd to 3rd had problems changing and revs dropped. Any ideas anyone as to what could be the cause and how to rectify it? Thanks in advance Debbie
  6. Hi Bleeno, thank you for your information. I'm delighted to say we have managed to get the ECU working, extended the wiring on all 3 leads and put on new plugs (i.e the bits that plug into the ECU) put in a new fuse when we managed to find the one for the Central Locking and hey presto it's all working fine now
  7. Purchased a Galaxy Ghia X 2.3 R reg at an Auction just over a week ago. Love the car but when we got it home discovered the central locking does not work. Surfed the web to figure out what was wrong and realised it's the ECU, it had been disconnected from the cables. It has 3 cables going into it, some of the wires had been broken off completely so extended all the wires in order to refit the 3 plugs and put them into the ECU...nothing happened. Got another ECU second hand, it only takes 2 cables but I was told the Central locking would work without the 3rd cable...plugged it in and nothing happened. Under the passanger seat is all dry and when some cables touched together the horn sounded...I assume this is for the alarm. Internal lights do not work only when put on via switch and the lights on the actual doors although working when I bought the vehicle stopped working. Again when wires are touched together the lights on doors work also the internal lights come on. I would be most grateful for anyones advice. Thanks in advance Debbie
