thanks - I had the belt refitted at a garage and it was fine for about the first 15 miles or so. Is it still possible that it was refitted incorrectly?

Hi, I've just had a used alternator fitted after my last one failed and shortly afterwards I started getting an intermittent rattling / grinding noise but no warning lights or other symptoms. The rattling seems to be coming from the belt or alternator and is now very loud even when idling. What is the most likely cause and how can I diagnose (with my very limited automotive experience!), thanks 1996 2.0l petrol
