  1. I had the usual problem of the washer pipe coming apart and taking out the reversing sensor control unit under the seat. Loads of electrics went haywire until I disconnected the unit. Taking it out seemes to sort most things except the heater controls and the clock (the blower works fine, its all the other controls that are dead). I've virtually had the whole dash out looking for a reason why these won't work to no avail. I never bothered replacing the reversing unit as the sensors have never worked anyway (broken lens somewhere). Could this be the problem? HAs anyone else removed one of these units and not had the same problems as me? Thanks
  2. Hi, does anyone have or know where I can get a wiring diagram for my 05 tdi? In particular its the heating and ventilation controls I need help with. Thanks
  3. Hi, I had this exact problem, my heater blower stopped working plus other strange electrical happenings. The flood from your washer pipe has got the loom wet and has rotted the relay control wires. I had a vehicle electrician show me the problem and I could not believe the way the loom is put together at his point. The relay control wires are basically stripped at the ends, twisted together and soldered. When the loom gets wet this "twist" part rots and disconnects stopping the relays operating, hence no heater and other stange happenings. The solution is simple, in the nearside passenger footwell (in the flooded region) you have to get to the loom and carefully cut the outer wrapping of the loom. Examine the area and you will see one part where three or four different coloured wires have been twisted together at the ends and soldered. You basically have to repair this by stripping away a little more wire and remake all the connections. Off course insulate and make good the exposed loom and put everything back as good as possible. Good luck, Basher... Great stuff, thanks. When you say in the passenger footwell, do you mean in the well under the seat or in the bottom of the door shut, where the washer pipe lives?
  4. My problem started when the rear washer pipe split and flooded the passenger footwell, tis in turn took out the parking sensor control unit. This has been removed as they've never worked anyway and all seemed well. However the heater controls have stopped working, as has the illumination, and also the clock. I've checked all the fuses and they are all fine, I've removed the heater control unit god knows how many times and cleaned the contacts etc but nothing seems to be solving it. Is there another fuse hidden somewhere? Surley the revesing sensor unit doesn't need to be plugged in, or does it? Help!!
  5. I've got exactly the same problem since my parking sensor destroyed itself. Which fuse was it you replaced? I thought I had checked them all but maybe not. As a matter of interest did you get a new parking sensor or you you running without one connected?
  6. Damn. If this thread had been started 4 days earlier I would have saved
  7. Does anyone know why this would suddenly stop working? My Gal is a taxi and the meter usues the pulse from the violet wire to work out when to tick up, it stopped working at the start of the week and the so called 'auto electricians' are taking forever to fix it. Is there another wire somewhere on the car that does the same thing maybe? Cheers
  8. Nope, disconnected it and it got worse. :46: What to try next, blocked air filter possibly?
  9. My Galaxy has started to hold back when pulling hard, not really noticable until I get into 3rd or 4th but when my foot is hard down its lacking power and you can really feel it holding back, then going. It cruises perfectly smoothly, its just when pulling hard, eg accelerating to join a motorway. If I rev her hard she occasionally goes into limp mode. Also she feels very down on power at very low revs, below turbo cutting in speeds. Can anyone shed any light? THanks
  10. Hi, does anyone know if the same pollen filter is fitted to Mk1 and 2 models or did they change them? Thanks
  11. Hi, my 05 Gal has just failed its mot on a leaky rear shock. It doesn't look particularly complicated but thats usually the kiss of death! Has anyone done this job before, are there any tips anyone can give me? Cheers
  12. My 05 Galaxy has had a new drivers door lock fitted at some point during its life which I have a 'normal' key for. The original remote key still operates the ignition and boot. THe remote locking won't work, I've changed the batterys in the key, and I've tried doing the re-programming thing in the owners guide (using both keys) all to no avail. Would a new lock mess up the remote locking or do I have a problem somewhere else?
  13. Certainly sounds like a bit of oil on the plate. New cover probably had a thin coating to prevent corrosion. Should just burn itself off.
  14. Just had to replace a couple of bulbs, and as it looks like a nightmare job unless you have hands the size of a three year olds, thought I would post how I did it. Its easier to just take the whole lamp assembly out. You will need a star tool and an extension bar. Start by removing the four star bolts on top of the grill. Look at the inside edge of the lamp, there is a recess cut into it to allow access to the lower retaining bolt. Loosen this off a few turns, don't take it right out as it will be a pig to get back in. Remove the two upper retaining bolts. Headlight will now come out with a bit of jigging, refitting is just the reverse of removal, just make sure the lower mounting bracket goes under the bolt/washer.
  15. I asked Fords and even they can't find out! Trial and error (and a very understanding shop keeper) have noe found it to be 27mm.
  16. Hi, does anyone know what size the bolts are that hold the front caliper carriers to the hubs are. I reckon its about 27/28mm at a guess, but can anyone tell me for definite? Cheers
  17. Are all the pd engines belt driven? I only ask as I had a Mondeo before with a Duratorq that was chain driven, although it seems some of them had belts.
  18. Just be glad you have a newer Galaxy. I had the old mk1 shape and had blocked drains. The water poured in and went straight into the wells under the passenger seat, destroying the central locking control box. (Who in their right mind thought of putting electronis under there in the first place!) I came home from work to find my car sat in the pouring rain, both windows down and the central locking going ten to the dozen!
