  1. Thanks for that, had a look on Silverlakes but they don't have any at the moment, there is a few on fleabay though. Do you know if the Mk1 and Mk2 are the same parts?
  2. Hi, had a loud bang when trying to open the window the other morning, took the door card off and found one of the metal cables snapped. The motor is still whirring away happily so I don't want to replace that unneccesarily. Had a look on ebay and found a few repair kits for about the fifteen quid mark. Has anyone had any success fitting one of these? Or would I be better off trying to get a whole replacement regulator, minus the motor? Thanks
  3. After all the bad weather I would be willing to bet its water in the wiring loom. Take off the passenger footwell trim and strip back the loom, you should find 3 wires that for some reason Ford saw fit to just tape together. They will be corroded from the water ingress. Strip them back, re-make the connections properly and you should have a working heater panel again.
  4. Hi, Have replaced my troublsome mk2 with a lovely Mk1 2.3 auto, with lpg conversion. Well it will be lovely when I get a couple of minor issues sorted. Firstly the central locking isn't working on the boot lock, neither is the reversing distance sensor (its the type with the little black box mounted behind the rear windscreen), is it likely to be a broken wire in the gaiter? next, one of the dashboard bulbs has gone, not a big problem but a bit of an annoyance, are these easy to change? Lastly, the airbag light is on. I take it my old vagcom lead won't work on the mk1? Is there a way of redetting the light or do I need a new code reader? Thanks in advance.
  5. Probably worth getting it plugged in and checked with vagcom or getting a diagnostic done. I had a similar fault and it was the camshaft position sensor causing it.
  6. My 05 1.9 PD has developed an intermettent starting fault. She starts OK from cold, not instant but always starts after a bit of cranking. Glowplugs have been tested and are ok. Ususally starts on the click when hot, however if I leave her for more than about 15 minutes it will not start. The engine turns and turns at a good speed (faster than when cold) but will not go. Leave it another 15 mins or so and it starts on the turn of the key again. I've changed relay 109 and thats made no difference so I'm thinking its somethng temperature related. I've read a few posts where people have changed an engine temp sender and its cured their problems. Whereabouts is this located on the PD and does anyone have the part no (preferably vw)?   7. Might be a daft question, but I was poking round under the front of the car earlier and I noticed a switch of some kind attached to the top of my clutch pedal, much like a brake light switch. Anyone know what this is?

  9. Hello mate, yeah. Took the gearbox off and the clutch plate had separated. Basically the friction ring had sheared from the inner ring. Put a new one in, but still getting the pulsing pedal.
  10. Just heard back from garage, still no change. Head is only about 18 months old, they tested it with something that changes colour in the water if a leak is present, all came back negative. Mechanic is now removing each pipe individually to see if anything is breaking down internally.
  11. Well, it didn't! Boiled over again within half an hour of me getting it back. So far its had a new water pump, stat, radiator, the head/block has been tested and came back ok. THis is really odd. Garage are now thinking it could be a crack in the header tank that opens when it gets hot, or a hose breaking down internally and causing random blockages.
  12. Cheers for that. Garage have pressure tested the head and its OK so they agree the rad is the culprit. Fingers crossed a new one sorts it!
  13. Really hoping someone can shed some light on this. A few weeks ago my Gal suddenly boiled up on a trip back from gatwick. GOt it towed and took it to garage next day. The car had a replacement head fitted last xmas. When they were poking round they noticed the water pump wasn't changed, so they did that and the stat, and all was well for a couple of weeks. Then the same thing happened. As I wasn't far from home I decided to wait till it cooled off then drive it home rather than waiting for another tow. On the way home all was fine. Took it back to garage, let them have it for two days, couldn't find anything wrong. Same thing has happened a couple of times. It boils up at any random time, could be first thing after warming up, could be after a day of motorway driving, I leave it to cool, let any pressure out of the system, top up any lost coolant, and all is well again. I'm worried its the head again but would it not just overheat every time i ran it? Can anyone possibly think what could cause such a random fault? Cheers Paul

  15. HI, if its been flooded you'll need to get under the passenger seat ans disconnect the three plugged electronic box under there. That should cure the central locking, but it will stop it permanently, you will have to lock all the doors manually until you can get another unit.
  16. Hi, my 05 115bhp TD is becoming a pig to start. It ususally takes a fair bit of cranking first thing in the morning. Once its hot about half the time it fires on the first turn, however if I stop and then re-start pretty quickly it doesn't want to know. I then have to crank it for what seems like forever, or leave it about ten minutes, then it fires first time again. Does this sound like a relay on its way? Cheers Paul
  17. If you don't fancy taking it all out you can drill small holes in the underside of the aluminium casing and spray some oil in. I used 3in1 spray copper grease. Get the wipers moving then spray a load more in for good measure. Mine have been fine ever since.
  18. Ok latest update. Tried a vacuum bleeder, no difference. Then on the advice of a Ford technician I have back bled the system using a pressure bleeding kit. While it hasn't cured it it has made a significant improvement. If you try it make sure to take some fluid out of the reservoir first!
  19. Any power loss? Sounds very much like a split turbo hose.
  20. Have some damage to my tailgate so I'm looking at getting a second hand one as I think it will be cheaper than getting a new spray job. On the Mk2 is the wiring connected by a plug or is it a nightmare job re-running looms?
  21. OK lataest update. I changed the bleed nipple t piece as this has a one way valve (half the price at VW than Frauds wanted btw). Absolutely no improvement. I'm convinced there is air in there or there is a problem at the reservoir, whereby the system is being pressurised/depressurised by the brake servo. Looking at TIS it says to use a special tool for bleeding, and from the description it seems to connect to the bleed nipple and pump the fluid back through the system? Has anyone else tried using one?
  22. Hi, does anyone know if the plugs on a 155bhp PD do anything after starting? Mine has started running like a bag of **** while cold, cutting out and losing power etc, and this morning it was a real pig just to start. Is it worth trying a new set of glows before I get it put on a diagnostic tester?

  24. Driving home tonightI lost all gears. Had to get a tow home as gears won't engage at all. Clutch makes no difference, you can move the stick all round with the engine running and the clutch out. My first thought was that the linkage had gone, as there is no resistance on the stick, however when I got home I looked at the selector cables on the box and they are moving, although I don't know how much they are supposed to travel. THere was no bang, no sudden jerk, nothing to indicate anything had broken, but I did get a smell of burnt clutch plate. What does everyone reckon? Linkage, clutch or total gearbox failure? :( 05 1.9PD 115 Cheers
