  1. Booked the Gal in for a retest this morning. Last night i took her for a real good thashing through the gear box, for extra measure I did a John Cleese from Faulty towers and thrashed the Gal with a birch stick, and again this morning thrashed her all the way to the MOT station, promising her i would forgive all past grievances such as 2 MAF sensors, gear box failing, turbo packing in, 3 brake light switches, air con not working, etc etc, if only you will pass this emmisions test!! Well it worked and passed MOT with flying colours all emmisions are ok. So tonight she will be sitting in the garage surrounded by rose petals with me on my knees saying i love you godess shalaxy. Well until something else blows ha ha. Cheers guys oggie

  3. Hi, Can anyone throw a light on this one please. 1.9TDI 1999. Starts excellent when cold, but engine has started to take 5-6 seconds to start when hot. I suspect a sensor but not to sure of what/where etc. cheers Oggie
  4. Hi All, My caraven exterior lights when towing keep blowing a fuse on the Gal, on inspection who ever wired up the sockets connected the caravan exterior lights (black and brown) to the rear number plate lights, which is a 3 amp fuse and obviously not up to the job, question is looking at the wiring loom i cant figure out which wires go to the gal tail lamps to rewire. Any one know what colour wires are for the tail lights on the Gal. cheers oggie
  5. Hi Guys, Does anyone know the location of the turbo control solenoid for 1.9 tdi gal 1999 110bhp. Do you have a piccy as well? cheers
  6. I require a vw or seat part number for wastegate control soleoid, fords call it an actuator assembly and cannot supply me with one for my 1999 110 tdi Gal, they want to exchange the whole turbo ! the turbo is VN type AFN engine code on a Garrott turbo and has a 3 bolt bracket for the actuator assembly. If any of you guys can produce a vw or seat part number for the above it would be very appreciated. Oggie
  7. I changed the switch ok,
  8. thanks for the replies, where is the brake light switch located?
  9. 1999. 1.9tdi I have had tail light fault indicators on for aprox 1 week, even though the rear lights were working ok, followed by glow plug symbol flashing from today, I have checked the threads here, and checked the brake lights, which are not working, am ok with this so far, as I will replace the brake pedal servo. The main problem is power loss at about 2,500 revs in 3rd or 4th gear. I changed the MAF sensor over last week from our good friends GSF (
  10. MAF sensor is most common fault with your symptoms, dont buy a replacement from your fraud dealer, if you search MAF on this site you will find a link to GFS website where you will get a replacement for about
  11. As soon as I start the motor, the radiator fans (2) come on, and stay on, no matter how long the journey ie 5 miles or my normal 15 miles to work. Climate control is fitted so there is no switching the air con on, unless you adjust the temp to low, the temp settings for front and back are set to 21 deg C.
  12. The radiator cooling fans (2) are running at all times, any ideas why this is happening, or what to check. Temperature gauge displays normal. Climate control works ok. temp settings 20deg C. Water level normal. Gal 1.9tdi 110bhp 1999. cheers Oggie
  13. My gal 1.9TDI, 110BHP, mark 1, requires a MAF sensor. The local Ford garage wants
  14. Took the gal to my local garage today the owner has a mark 2, He checked all the vacuum pipes etc, and found all to be ok, one thing he noticed was that i had changed the fuel filter recently, the new one was only partly filled with diesel with diferent size pipework to the original, he changed it, and took it out and seems to pick up better ? so am trying it out to see if it has cured the problem. If not he will recheck the cam belt settings. will keep you posted but if you think of any thing else it could be, please post cheers oggie
  15. Gal 1.9tdi 1999 ghia x. I have towed a caravan for a couple of years with the gal and the performance has always been excellent, this bank hols towed to north wales and the peformance was abismal, any slight incline and it was down the gears and lucky to get over 40mph, we struggled all the way even on the flat, when not towing the gal seems ok, but lacks any umph if u know what i mean. I have tried disconnecting the MAF sensor and it runs the same, so no noticable loss or increase in performance there, I had the cam belt changed 2 weeks ago and my thoughts were, have the garage not set it up correctly i.e. slipped a tooth ? any ideas would be appreciated. cheers Oggie
  16. I am prety sure you will find its the anti roll bar thats causing the noise, even a small amount of play will give the impression of something serious happening. I recommend you get this checked out first before dismantling every thing else Oggie
  17. Cheers guys, Had the system charged with R134A, all is now well, no error display, no leaks (yet) and the air con works ok, I have been advised to run the air con regularly every couple of weeks for 5 minutes, R134A apparantly will find any weakness in the system and escape. Oggie
  18. Just changed my dunlop 215/55's, national tyres on a price match, less 10% best price was
  19. ;) What gas is used to recharge the air con, and to what pressure? cheers oggie
  20. Thanks guys, most helpful, will have to think carefully about this, i will get the system recharged and checked out, but if the evaporator is leaking, no way is this being changed, as a new one was fitted in 2002 when i purchased the gal. many thanks oggie
  21. Hi, Any of you guys have any advise on climate display flashing for about 10 seconds on start up, I have read in the hand book that it is an error in the system, but every thing seems to work ok, heat, demist, the jet engine on low temps, etc, had the air con checked out last year, any clues would be much appreciated cheers oggie
