  1. Hello all, I would appreciate some advice please. I have a 1996 2 litre Galaxy thats served me well. Unfortunately a problem has developed whereby power steering fluid is leaking from the nearside end of the steering rack making the vehicle very unplesant to drive. Does this mean a new/recon steering rack? Also I have just read of a product called 'Lucas Power steering stop Leak' . Has anybody tried this or believes it could do the job.? Many Thanks, Leigh
  2. Thanks All, Thats the kind of news I like ! Cheers, Leigh
  3. Hello everyone, I have a 1996 2 litre Galaxy that has been regularly serviced. It drives very well and is never driven hard or not done any towing. It has now done 96,000 miles. The engine is quite and does not rattle. My questions are - 1. Should I renew the timing chain or carry on driving ? 2. How much would it cost to replace the timing chain ? 3. How difficult a job is it for a DIY ? Cheers, Leigh.
  4. Hello all, Just an update. It did turn out to be a faulty power steering pump. I fitted a recon pump(
  5. Thanks for your replies and assistance. I shall follow this up over the weekend. Cheers, Leigh
  6. Hello one and all, Thought I would sound out all you experts before starting work and wasting money ! My 1996 2 litre Galaxy has just failed the MOT on inadequate power steering when the vehicle is stationary. It does make a screetching noise when the steering wheel is turned in either direction and can be a bit stiff and juddery. This is only when the vehicle is stationary or being slowly manouvered. The car is fine when driving. They said I would need a new power steering pump at about
  7. :( Hi, Following on from an earlier question on this subject, my 1996 Aspen has dual air bags and the warning light is always on. Is the ' clock spring' easy to check and get access to ? Also does anyone know is this would result in an MOT failure ? Many thanks, Leigh
  8. As an update to this, it does make some noise whilst turning the steering wheel toward full lock in either direction. This only seems to be whilst manouvering at slow speed (in and out of spaces or when stationary) Would this still indicate that the noise is due to the fluid/valve answer as given earlier ? Thanks, Leigh
  9. Thanks for that Ivor. I was concerned as it's the wife and kids that use the Galaxy. Looks like it's something you put up with or pay a fortune to get rid of ! Cheers, Leigh
  10. Thanks for your answers. That has reassured me. Is anyone able to tell me the most likely cause of the noise? As I listen over the engine with the bonnet up and my wife turning the steering wheel from lock to lock, the noise appears to come from a liitle to the left side, below and behind the exhaust heat shield. Thanks for your help, Leigh
  11. Hi to everyone, I have a 1995 Aspen Galaxy 2.0 which drives well but has a very noisy power steering on full lock in both directions. The system does not appear to need bleeding as there are no bubbles in the fluid. Has anybody had experience of this problem or knows what might be causing it ? Cheers, Leigh
