  1. why would someone think blocking other people is funny. I seldom write anything here, but that really is a bit odd. Anyway, if you're in the middle lane we can overtake using the other two, so be my guest.... Strange, very strange....
  2. Which? Magazine just tested various tyres (not all mentioned) and preferred Pirelli P7s.
  3. does anyone have any suggestions how to stop the brake switch sticking every 3 months and thereby giving me the 'Engine Workshop' warning?? I know topic has been done before, but see no definitive solution, other than spray silicone on it every three months and thereafter........
  4. VW Sharan 1.9Tdi. 2002. Had the Engine Workshop message come up with the flashing Glow Plugs light. Thanks to this forum I know already it
  5. From what the operator said to me I think this may be great. Delay costs me nothing and I'll take the risk I need an argument to claim back any costs. I have my ref no., a name, and a recorded line.
  6. mine was due to a/c unit dumping condensation through crack in drainage plate and into footwell.
  7. Just phoned my dealer and VW direct re extending my warranty on 1.9 TDi 02 Plate Sharan. Fearful of the a/c breaking down (again). Transpires that these can not be offered at present due to FSA regs. Interestingly the operator noted my name and gave me a reference number. If the warranty situation is not resolved before my actual 3 years are up VW are suggesting they will re-imburse all costs that would have been covered by an extended warranty as long as you take the extension out once the FSA approve it. Seems like a free option to me. So make that call if you're nearing the 3 years. Last year it took them 12 hours and
  8. VW Sharan - 02 1.9 TDi. We have moved to Variable Servicing. Among the benefits is tha tthe oil used seems to have had an effect on fuel consumption as well - would it really? Variable Servicing still requires the car to be serviced at least every two years, but I'm hoping I'm going to save money on it.
  9. Sahran 02 Tdi has been in since Tuesday morning to have the condensation collector plate replaced. The technician has been working on the car for three solid days and is only now putting the dashboard back together!!! Why do they make these things so complicated if teh system itself is prone to failure?? Speaking with an aircon specialist the other day he recommended extending the warranty if the whole system does not collapse before three years are up, as it is highly likely to collapse the following year!!!!
  10. Dealer has just confirmed that the condensation 'collecting pan' has broken. Apparently they see a lot of this. The pan is plastic and becomes brittle with the cold water dropping on it. Why on earth didn't the designers figure this out previously? Still under warranty, thank god as it is a big job (man hours).
  11. We have just had the same problem. Funny - the car was in the dealers 7 days ago to have new rear brake pads. The switch was covered in new (clean) grease. Glow plug flashing and no brakes. Played with the switch and hey presto, loosened up and everything fine. The only thing you guys have not mentioned is whether your 'Engine Workshop' sign came on. We had never seen this before and it only came on at the same time we diagnosed the problem. It is not coming on anymore, do you think the problem being diagnosed was the one solved? Or is there another latent problem? Did you see the sign come up? Please let me know, I am having a nightmare with what was a previously reliable Sharan (02 TDI).
  12. Ivor - good to hear that - I will use them too. We live a couple of miles away also. I was thinking I'd have to take a day off to go to Michedever. Only 30 mins drive I know - but once you add on the waiting around!!! Now I can just get the wife to take the car in.
  13. Couldn't find previous thread on tyre wear and prices, so will update people here. My Sharan 1.9TDi has 20,000 on clock and front are worn - evenly - backs look like they will go another 40,000. I use high pressure (42 front and 40 back) as the car is usually fully loaded. Micheldever Tyres in Hants offered two fron Dunlop 20/20's at
  14. Sharan '02 1.9TDi. No problems as yet. Used an electronic baby's room thermometer and reading 7C from outlets. We have the dual air conditioning and this works really well. I never believed the a/c could really work on such a big car so we made the dual a/c a prerequisite. I never see the usual pool of condensation under the car though. Wonder were it is all going!!
