Parking Sensor - Front Offside Corner
smudge2002 replied to smudge2002's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks for the reply Mirez. That sounds about right. I was going of a previous Galaxy that had an problem with a rear sensor that I could resolve by feeling underneath the bumper and fiddling around with the wires. It seemed to do the trick, though it did re-ocur every now and then. How easy is it to replace the front ones? Can it be done with the bumper in place or will that have to be removed? I've seen the sensors on eBay so I could pick one up from there. Just not sure whether it's a job I could do myself. -
I have a 53 plate TDI with parking sensors and the front offside corner one is faulty. All the others click when the sensors are turned on, just this one seems to be dead. I want to check to see if it just a loose connection. However, by searching this forum the consensus seems to be that the only way to get to the wiring at the back of the sensor is to remove the front bumper. Anyone know if there is an easier way to get to this one? Not sure I want to be going to the hassle of removing the bumper just to see if it is a loose connection, bearing in mind I am a complete numpty when it comes to anything like this. I'd probably get the bumper off then not be able to get it back on again. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. (Even if they are 'take it to your local auto electrician').

I am very happy with it. It's the second one I've had (first was a 2.3 petrol) and I've not had any major problems with either, aside from the air-con not working in my current one. But as that could be quite expensive to fix I'll just open the windows.

Hi Bob, Yes you can. With plenty of space to spare for getting your hands down between the seats to fasten the buckles on the boosters. I have a 52 reg 1.9 TDi and have one normal child seat, fastened in with the seat belt and a 5 point harness for the child, plus two high back boosters across the middle row and there's plenty of room. I also find it is easier to fix the normal child seat in as you can get right on top of it when tightening the seatbelt. The only problem I found was that with some seats didn't seem to fit very tightly. I got a Britax Evolva 123 and had to go back to the shop to get it fitted properly. I wasn't putting enough weight on it to get it tight as the seat cushions are well padded and have a lot of give in them. Now as I know what I'm doing though I have no problem fitting it back in.

Powersteering Just Failed And Batterylight Came On
smudge2002 replied to Jazzman's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Hi, This happened on mine last year (52 reg 1.9 tdi) and it was the alternator pulley had sheared off the alternator. Sounds like it could be the same fault. Cheers, Smudge. -
I switched from MoreThan to Privilege last year becase they were the cheapest around. Now due for renewal again and Privilege are one of the more expensive. LV seem to be the cheapest for me at the moment with comparable cover to the Privilege quote.

I've noticed that each click on the back button makes one of the half icons disappear. The third click moves you back a page. But for some reason you then can't go forward again. If you want to go back to the page you'd just come back from you have to click on the link.

Are We All Going To Die Next Wednesday?
smudge2002 replied to seatkid's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Well the good news is we're still here. The bad news is they're not trying to collide the particle beams until next month. So we're not out of the woods yet. Gives you more time to party though. -
Just How Many 115tdi Turbo's Trip Out

I had the powermaxx trestment done recently at a nationwide autocentre and that seems to have done the trick. It's no longer tripping out and the economy seems to have improved by a couple of mpg. -
Air-con Refill And Quickfit
smudge2002 replied to Airrex7's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I suppose the advantage with Kwikfit is that if the re-gas doesn't work then you don't pay anything. -
Usually I just stand on a dining room chair to change a lightbulb light bulb lamp(hmmm, still not sure which is the correct term) but now wonder if I fall foul of H&S regulations. May be I should use a step ladder, have four people around to hold it steady, be supported from a saftey harness attached to the ceiling, have an ambulance crew on standby in case of injury and have a H&S rep from the local council in attendance to oversee the whole operation. Of course, the whole thing will have to be planned at least 4 weeks in advance and have the plans approved by the H&S rep.

On Board Computer. Mpg, Distance Etc
smudge2002 replied to ACD1055's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Dave, At the end of the stalk there is a switch which will cycle through the various readings. On the bottom of the stalk there should be a switch that will change the display between two different readings. In number 1 (there is a small 1 in the top right corner of the display) the readings reset after the ingition has been switched of for two hours. Number 2 is a cumulative and is reset manually. I tend to reset this when I fill up (if I remember) to see the cumulative mpg, distance travelled etc on a tank of fuel. To reset these values, set the display to mode you want, 1 or 2, then depress and hold the button on the bottom of the stalk for a few seconds until the readings are reset. Hope this makes sense. Sainsbury's Slash Diesel Price

Which Sainsburys was that at? It was 129.9 at the one in Denton, Manchester yesterday and hasn't been below 126.9 for a good few weeks now. Still, I had my 5p a litre voucher so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Only -
The Cruise Control Light Poll!
smudge2002 replied to Mirez's topic in What thing irritate you about your Galaxy
I voted Mk2 VW engined (V6 or TDI) with CC but no light for my current Galaxy, 52 reg 1.9Tdi. I presumed that not having the light come up was a fault as my previous Gal, an 03 2.3 petrol had CC and the light was always on whether the CC was active or not. But maybe it isn't a fault after all going by the options and results posted so far. Smudge. -

This must be what happened to me last Friday. I have a 2003 1.9tdi auto. Loaded it up with the wife, 3 kids and luggage for a trip from home in Manchester up to the mother-in-laws in Glasgow. For the first half of the journey every time we hit an incline I had to kick-down into a lower gear to crawl up the hill until it levelled off and we picked up a bit of speed. We stopped at Gretna Services for lunch. After that it was fine. No problem accelerating up hills and it was fine when I came back Sunday. I'll see if it does the same this weekend when I go back up to pick them all up again. -

Where abouts in Manchester? I got my 2003 52 plate 1.9tdi from a place in Radcliffe just before Christmas. -
Hi RadioTwo, Thanks for that. Any idea what they move? Before I noticed them I plugged the changer in to make sure it was working and it played a disc ok. Smudge2002.

Does anyone know if Haynes are planning to release a manual for the 2003 Galaxy? Their catalogue shows a manual for the Galaxy up to 2000 but nothing after. Did anything major change on the post 2000 Galaxy or will the 2000 Galaxy manual suffice. I'm planning to do some of the basic maintenance myself to save a bit of cash. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I've just got hold of a CD changer for my Galaxy. It was originally mounted under the front seat of a Mondeo but I'll be putting it into the boot side panel as the wiring for it is already in place. On the sides of the changer there are two square clear plastic covers with arrows on pointing to the top of the unit. Underneath each one there looks to be a peg in a slot which looks as though it moves something inside the changer. If I put it into the side panel so the front is pointing upwards do I need to alter the position of the pegs to point towards the front of th unit? And if I do is it just a case of removing these plastic covers to move the pegs? Any help would be much appreciated.

As the description says I'm now on my second Galaxy. My first was a 03 reg 2.3 petrol which I had to change as it wasn't economical enough. Changed to a Focus C-Max diesel in August but I lasted only four months in that. I found it just too cramped with 3 kids in the back so we're back to a Galaxy again. This time it's a 52 reg 1.9 diesel auto and it feels great to be back in something with plenty of room again. I hope you've all had a good christmas and wish you all the best for the new year.
