I am now convinced that the problem is air/con. I have had the air/con on ECON now for several weeks and no water. The problem seems to be when the air/con is on for cold air and water appears in the drivers foot well. I have checked this after rain and riving in rain and even after the rain the next day and nothing. It is definately when the air/is on cold. The drain pipe must be blocked or has come adrift somewhere. any experts out there please on this subject.

I have a MK 1 2.8 (98) I have seen it and you will find it inside the offside wing (drivers side), you have to remove the plastic inner wing cover by removing several screws around the cover edges once you have removed all screws that secure the cover you will be able to manouver the cover out from the wheel/wing area. Look inside top left and you will see it hanging there.

Thanks for the replies, I will keep looking and checking until I find the answer.

I think that this sounds good Dave-G only I couldn't see anything when I took the plastic trim from the middle bottom of the dash. All was dry and no sign of any pipe. The pipe that has been suggested behind the engine I have found and put a tyre compresser on it but no water came out. Do you think that this pipe is a little high to be a drain I would assosiate a drain pipe being lower down. All usual culprits have been checked for blockages but as said I have been getting water during a 2 week period with no rain. I know that all areas need to be checked but i am convinced this problem is to do with the aircon. There was suggested that a badly fitted pollen filter can block the pipe does the pollen filter come into contact with this pipe. Thanks in advance for all the probabilities keep them coming I will get to the bottom of this and solve so many other questions assosiated with water in the drivers footwell.

I have had water in the drivers side footwell which puzzled me. It happened when it wasn't raining over a couple of weeks. I thought it could be heater coolant but it was clean water which had no smell and I wasn't losing water. I had been using the aircon on and off as it helps clear the windows quicker This is when the water appeared. I have looked on the forum to what I can do, I have lifted the carpet and plastic trim around the door also dismantled bits of trim from around the bottom of the gear tunnel also took glove box out to try to find the aircon drain pipe which I suspect is blocked and this is probably why water is appearing. I have since stopped using the aircon and used ECON only and the water has stopped. I am still looking for this pipe can anyone point me in the right direction please. I have a 1998 mk1 2.8 galaxy.

I have been persevering with my auto box for about a year with the problem of gear changing. I finally pumped up the courage to take it to a auto gearbox specialist. after a road test the specialist said it was probably the wiring loom or the ECU. At what cost I asked

have looked at wires, they seem ok,do you mean switching passenger side switch over to drivers one?as drivers side has 2 switches, drivers and front passengers. I had this problem with my 98 galaxy. I pulled the switch out of the door you have to slide it one way or the other. Then I removed the multiplug and then pushed it back in . It did the trick and has been fine since hope this solves your problem.

Hello when you say the scuttle panel are you talking about the one under the bonnet with three bolts or the plastic trim under the windscreen. Where are the plastic plugs that neen silicon. Thanks for the reply on the sound proofing under the carpet I now know that this has to be cut out and dried. Is there any plastic plugs in this area or under the seats or in the foot well area that I may not know about. Thanks.

Hi. gregers no I haven't a sunroof so no probs there, I don't think the screen is leaking there is no evidence of damp or staining which may be evident. I have removed the plastic inner wing and poured water in to the scuttle channel and the water came out quite freely. By the the way would you know what the black box is with 2 clear plastic tubes coming from it in the offside wheel arch up on the left behind the plastic inner wing . I have checked the carpet recently after mild rain and no puddle.

have you had a look round the pollen filter area, have you also checked the pipe for the rear washer, runs beside the passenger seat. Hello gregers, I had a look while the carpet was up I don't use the rear washer anyway because of the problem involved so I know the problem is not here there was too much water all of a sudden. I checked around the pollen filter removing the scuttle plate thing to check the channels all clear and dry. Not even any wet mud that may point to a blockage. This is the first time it has happenened and it seems that it happened after the recent heavy rain. I must say it has got me puzzled. What I need to know also is how do I get the sound proofing out to dry it. It seems to have a plastic covering or something and when you put pressure on it the water squeeses out so it is sturated.

Hello can any body tell me what is involved when the sound proofing material under the carpet in the passenger footwell is saturated. I have dried the carpet but after lifting it I have found that the sound proofing needs drying out. Is it one piece through out the car and needs to be cut or is it in small sections and easily removed. I was not sure if I need a weekend to tackle this can some one advise please.. I have checked for blockages in the scuttle area and all is clear so Ime not sure how I got a puddle of water I can only think of the recent prolonged heavy rain has had some say in it. I removed the plastic inner wheel arch to check and found a 1inch square hole that comes from from the scuttle so I know it can't be here. I did find a rubber bung in with the collection of road dirt but could'nt see where it came from any ideas !! This is the first time I have had this problem by the way.

You can say that agian minus 4 saturday morning in perthshire! My screen has a centimeter gap that slowly defrosts as well but is near the passenger side edge of the screen. I think that it could be damaged filaments within the heater in the screen.

Faulty Rear Electric Window?
skippy 2 replied to gazza66's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I had a similar problem with my drivers window I could here it clicking but nothing was happening. I prised out the switch from the door and disconnected the multi plug and then put it back and hey presto it started working again. -
Thanks for the info, I thought it might be. I may take the car to auto box specialist for diagnostics as this has been bugging me for some time. I can put up with the gears but have problems going up hills as the gears wont change.

Hi I have just changed my gear box oil as i have the problem of gears not changing, normally 1st to 2nd this has not solved the problem. Someone mentioned a filter, where would this be on the gearbox. I have a galaxy 2.8 ghia vr6. Also they mentioned about a very large nut to drain all of the gear box oil out apart from the drain on the gear box sump. Is this large nut on the front of the engine just above the oil filter as this is the only one i know of. Thanks for any help it would be apreciated.
