At the risk of getting my posts deleted (or banned) the alternative workaround for newbie 3 post "catch 22" is in the "trainee Guidelines" linked to above by gregers, where a trainee has yet to submit three non junk posts. Viewing Images You will not be able to see images in threads yet either - if you click on 'options' on the top right of a topic and select 'download topic', html, open - you will be able to see the images (if they are JPG not BMP format).

thanks for the info Hopefully being able to view attachments may help give me the incentive to create some for some of the work I have done on my Galaxy
