  1. Hi yes I'll post the correction detail on the Detailing World site when I've done it, are you a member on there aswell? Its gonna be 12-16 hours I reckon although the paint should be reasonably soft compared to an similar sized X5 that I've done which was hard graft. The tyres that are fitted are a budget tyre made by Diamond Back and were fitted as part of the wheel/tyre package. I'd never heard of them before but they seem pretty decent so far and they are a directional tyre with a nice tread pattern. I bought them from a Company in Ayr in the west of Scotland called DP Motorsport http://www.dp-motorsport.co.uk/. They also advertise on ebay, just do a search for RS6/RS8 wheels and you will find them. They are probably the cheapest you will find anywhere at the moment due to the sheer volume of wheels that they sell. They are selling around 25 sets a DAY on ebay and more via their shop. I paid
  2. 3 coats of Chemical Guys Wheel Wax is your friend Adrian! I apply another coat every time I wash the car, it really is superb stuff and allows you to just blast off the dirt by Jetwash. mumof4- yeah the Meguiars consumer range that you can buy in the shops is pretty good stuff and their clay is probably the best that you can get outside of the professional range. However my polish of choice is the Menzerna professional range or the Meguiars Professional machine glaze range via the trade route when applying by machine or Blackfire products from America or trusty old Auto Glym Radiant Wax (Super Resin Polish if you buy from Halfrauds) if hand applying. To top it off, Auto Glym have also just released a new paste wax at
  3. In my defence, the swirls were on it when I bought it 3 months ago, but I've not had a chance to detail the car since then! My sheepskin washmitt, pre-foam & 2 bucket method for washing ensures no more swirls will be added after I've done the paintwork correction. I may also do a FULL CAR wet sand to reduce some of the orange peel on it (factory original paint) if time allows.
  4. Well after a bit of hassle where the wheel shop sent out the wrong offset wheels, my Galaxy is now rolling on its shiny new set of diamond cut A8 wheels and -50mm progressive G Max springs. A quick review of my mods: Springs: I'm very impressed with the G Max springs. Although they didnt lower the car by 50mm due to the old springs having dropped a bit over the years, I'm very happy with the final ride height. Not too low that I'll get troubled too much by speed bumps and not too high so that it looks like a Land Rover as it did on the standard springs. Handling is greatly improved with the lower centre of gravity and the car doesnt roll much at all when cornering and with the springs being progressive rate, they will stiffen up the harder they are worked (I'm sure I've used that line on my wife before!) I've also noticed no reduction in ride comfort which was a concern before the springs were fitted, so they were well worth every penny of the
  5. yeah Adrian I had thought about asking them to deliver another set but I dont have the packaging they sent my original wheels in so their courier wouldnt collect them. Plus I'd rather turn up at the shop and get the new wheels fitted to ensure there's no problem with these ones. With them being replicas, for some reason the offset isnt stamped onto the wheel, all thats on them is ET but no number following it. I would say it was almost impossible to tell if its a 35 or 45 offset just by visually looking at the wheel so I dont want to risk another mix up in the shop. I actually tried measuring the offset myself last night and I was unable to get an accurate measurement so its probably safer just facing the 150 mile roundtrip to ensure I get the correct wheels this time. On the plus side, I've done a good bit of varied driving today for the 1st time with the -50mm G Max progressive springs and they are fantastic, no more rolypoly Galaxy through the twisty corners. I highly recommend anyone shelling out 135 of our good british pounds for a set. Oh while I remember, I won a tenner on the Lottery last night!
  6. I think your mistaken with that disc size tengo. The 2.3 has a 16" WHEEL, but the disc is obviously smaller, around 300 I believe
  7. You'll probably be a lot cheaper going to a coach trimmer and getting them to repair the headrest than buying one from Frauds. They will probably have off cuts that will be big enough to recover or repair it
  8. thanks for the info regarding the offset. Someone else had mentioned that the 35's would stick out too far, so I've gone ahead and bought the A8 style wheel with a 42 offset. I've gone for the 235x40x18 tyre to be on the safe side regards arch rubbing. When the time comes to replace these tyres I'll make a decision about going to the 245. I'm hoping the new -50mm springs will make a big difference not only to the look of the car, but to the handling as its lowering the centre of gravity a fair bit.
  9. adrianf the -50mm springs will be done on Friday which will get rid of the current 4x4 Land Rover look and the wheels will be fitted at the weekend with either the 235 or 245 x18" tyres. I'm going for the 12 spoke Audi A8 style wheel instead of the usual RS6 style that a fair number of people have gone for. The RS6 does look good but I think with the A8 wheel having the long fairly thin spokes it will make the wheel look a wee bit bigger and should look good on the Galaxy. I've not seen any other Galaxy/Sharhambra's with the A8 wheels so I'm relying on my imagination as to how its gonna look! If I can work out how to post pics on this site I'll get some photos up this weekend of the finished article.
  10. As per title, I'm buying a set of 18" alloys for my Mk2 2.3 Galaxy but in the 235x40x18 size I can only get a 95 rated tyre. This is within the load rating of the car but I would like to get a 97 rated tyre if possible and these are available in 245x40x18 size. I know a few people on here have 235 width tyres, but I just wondered if anyone was running on 245 width tyres as I am a bit concerned that these may rub on the inner lip of the wheel arch especially as my Galaxy is due to be fitted with -50mm springs on Friday. Any info from anyone? cheers Dean
  11. I'm looking to fit a set of 18" wheels to my Mk2 2.3 Galaxy, either the RS6 or A8 style. The correct tyre size I believe is 225/40R18. However having seen various comments on this site about load ratings and needing reinforced tyres I'm struggling to find any tyres with a high enough load rating, unless I'm looking for the wrong info. I've been in touch with Rochford Alloys on the web (www.alloywheels.com) who have some cracking prices and asked if they can supply suitable reinforced tyres and they came back to me and said they can supply these: Event WL905 92W XL. Never heard of that brand but surely the 92 rating would be too low?? Even when I've searched for reinforced tyres on mytyres.co.uk I cant find any with a high load rating. Can anyone advise as I'm desperate to get rid of my scabby standard 16" Ghia wheels and get the nice 18"'s with lowered springs?

  13. Its really not worth the time, hassle or money to paint them yourself. I replaced both front handles a couple of weeks ago and the handles were only about
  14. Hi, I need to check/top up my brake fluid level which is such a simple thing on any other car but on the Galaxy it appears to be a total nightmare. I'm getting the "brake failure" warning coming up during sharp turns, roundabouts etc and I assume its low fluid/dodgy sensor. I thought my Lotus was awkward to work on sometimes but Ford have taken the biscuit with the Galaxy. Its as if the designers thought "lets make the car stupidly hard to work on!" From what I can see, I would need to take the airbox & airflow meter off the car to get into the brake fluid reservoir. Can anyone confirm if thats the case of am I missing an obvious way of doing this. I've done a search on the forum and found other brake issue but not this specific problem. I'm hoping someone is going to say "yeah it takes 10 seconds, you just do this!" Thanks for any help, Dean
  15. Hi, I've recently bought a 2001 Galaxy Ghia which has the factory Autochanger fitted. The autochanger is completely dead, does nothing when you try to release the cartridge etc and when you press the CD button on the head unit it says "no disc". I just wondered if anyone had a diagram or knew which wire supplied power to the changer so I can check its getting a feed from the head unit. I'll try taking the head unit out to check no wires have fallen out the back but of anyone is aware of the wiring for the autochanger it would be a great help. Thanks, Dean
  16. Mumof4, can you show me some pics, I want to do it by myself. Thanks!! :o I just replaced mine today, simple job as mumof4 says. Simply lever off the bezel with a flate blade, then lever the handle upwards and it clips off. Then either disconnect the little plug from from each window switch or use a small flat screwdriver to release the catches on the electric window buttons and they will pop out of the handle. As they say in the Haynes manuals, "refitting is a reversal of removal". Front passenger side took about 3 mins and drivers side took about 10 because it had the extra rear window buttons. Simple job which really smartens up the interior as my anthracite handles had worn away to leave an 'in your face' beige colour underneath. The cost of new replacement from Ford probably works out cheaper than buying the primer and top coat paint and is certainly a helluva lot quicker to do than painting them.
  17. Hi, I've had my MK2 Galaxy Ghia for 3 weeks now and I'm sorting out a few little issues with it such as cracked rear light (obtained a new replacement for just

  19. As a newbie Galaxy owner (bought a 2001 Ghia 2.3 last week) can anyone tell me if the load cover was fitted as standard to this model? From what I've seen on this thread it obviously wasnt standard on all the cars which I think is pretty poor for a
