We have the same problem on our Sharan TDII. I changed the oil and that helped a bit. It's still noisy when cold and the auto gearbox takes a while to kick in. I think the cold mornings don't help. A friend once said a bit of benzene in winter helped in a tractor's oil but I'm not sure that applies to cars.
