  1. Thanks for the help. Used a long ball ended 5mm allen key to get at the awkward bolts fairly straight forward to remove the sump clean the old sealer off and replace. Noticed the right hand inner CV boot had gone and replaced that while I was at it! For information when I removed the sump there was less than 100ml of old oil in the sump (along with the rest of the tube of course!!) so it looks like sucking the oil out of the sump removes most of the old oil, so I wont worry about that any more once I've modified mu pump to ensure that a one piece pipe is sufficent to reach the bottom of the sump!! :o)

  3. Hi Folks, I am a numpty. I have a 2005 Galaxy 115TDI tha last couple of times I've changed the oil I've used a vacuum pump. The pump has a two piece pipe to reach the bottom of the sump. Today when I was changing the oil only one piece came out so I have to drop the sump to get the pipe out. I've taken off the undertray radiator pipe bracket that attaches to the sump and a few long bolts that attach it to the gearbox. At one side of the sump the bolts (10mm hex head with allen centres) the bolts are recessed at a funny angle. Any hints or tools that make getting to these easier? Many thanks.
  4. Turned into an intersting discussion this. As I said I'd normally go for a well known make (you'd think QC and materials might be better) but never noticed any difference using a cheapy in normal driving. It would be intersting to see the results of a blind test!
  5. Kind of a personal thing tyres. I would usually go for a mid range well known brand tyre. However, the first set of front Michelins (215/60/15)that came with the car new lasted 16,000 miles and I replaced them with Wanless (i think) chinese tyres as they were the only reinforced tyre the depot had in when I replaced them (i was off to france). They seemed to exibit the same characteristics as the Michelins and lasted 16,000 miles. The current fronts are bridgstone and charateristics are the same to me as the previous sets but they are wearing more quickly. The rear michelins are nearing 40,000 miles and I'll have to replace all four. I might go for the cheapies at least in a car you've got four wheels! I always use premium rubber on my motorcycles and you can detect different charateristics between makes much more easily than a car.
  6. That looks like a bit of T Cut would polish it out:)
  7. I've looked at both the new Galaxy and the S Max as a replacement for my 2005 model. While the fold down seats are convenient they eat too much into cabin space especially if you carry bicycles in the car!
  8. Been registered on here for some time. I've got a 2005 Galaxy 1.9PD 115 Tdi that I've had from new. It is my third! I had a 90ps Alhambra for four years which gave no trouble. A 2002 1.9PD Tdi that gave nothing but trouble! and this Galaxy that hadn't given any bother until the Air Con stopped working. Unfortunatly I'll have to hang on to it for another couple of years Ho Hum! Lots of good info on this site.
