If U want tow some trailers you should choose GAL with atleast 1.8T or 2.3 engine (the best one is V6 175 HP, with LPG) diesels are not strong enough although have good torque which is also very important in case of towing. Anyway there is no big choice. My suggestion is 2.3 engine - almost the same power as 1.8T, but no problems with turbo.

There is no problems wih engine until 150k, but keep in mind that almost each auto gearbox dies at 100k.
