  1. At present I tow my van (1500kgs) with a 90bhp diesel galaxy, I'm in the process of changing to a twin axel van (1900kgs) According to my dealer and the caravan towing guide I need to change to a min of an 2002 galaxy. Apperantly an 02 model can tow up to 2000kgs, and that from a very reputable caravan dealer. Personally myself I think i'm gonna change to a land cruiser or something like that.....
  2. Check the selecter rods where they meet the gear box. Sometimes if these slip or turn even the slightest bit it will make gear selection difficult.
  3. Hi all, thanks for the replys. i have been a busy boy since my last post. I had a guy look at the car and he said he was 99% sure it was the water pump. So me being me didn't see the point of paying him
  4. Hi Kev, that thought had never crossed my mind, I just assumed it was. The new oil i topped it up with is now black so i assume it is circulating. Derek
  5. Your right mum of 4, you should never start an engine with no oil or water. I had to get the car off the garage forecourt as it was blocking the pumps. there was a small amount of oil in the engine. I think the damage had been done before the car was brought into the garage and stopped. I really need to get it sorted as soon as possible as my wife uses the car for the school runs. Even to the point of fitting another engine if need. I really hope it doesn't come to that. Derek Laverty
  6. Yeap, the last time the head gasket was done it was skimmed and pressure tested. That time though the temp gauge give me warning the engine was hot. This time the temp gauge never moved from the norm until i stopped at the garage. Derek Laverty
  7. Hi all, New to the forum and boy, do i need help. I have owned my 1.9 TDI Galaxy for about 4 years now. She's a 90 bhp model 1999. I had owned it for about three months when one day she overheated, I got a chap to look at it and he diagnosed a head gasket. ll good and no bother since. Until last week.... After driving for around 25 miles I noticed the oil light flashing, I drive about another mile and pulled into a service station. When I opened the bonnet there was smoke coming from everywhere. Inside the rocker cover, up the dip stick pipe. I dipped it for oil and it was barely on the stick! Opened the expansion bottle and there was no water either ! So I tried to start it to move it off the middle of the fore court and the engine would hardly turn over. I rolled it back and let it sit for around an hour, when i filled it with oil and water i noticed water leaking from a pipe at the rear of the head. I repaired this and filled the engine with oil and water. It started and ran fine except it's now overheating!!! I had the guy who done the head gasket look at it and he said it was the water pump and thermostat. Being in the trade i removed the pump, When i opened it up it all seems as it should be inside. No impellor broken off, all moving freely. Has anyone out there any idea what my problem is or how to fix it. Many thanks....... Derek Laverty
