  1. Thanks, but it turns out it was just a dead battery........ Eventually found the receipt and it was over 4 years old :) Also the replacement battery I purchased was approx 1/3 bigger than the one coming out so it was probably struggling for ages.
  2. Hi everyone and a Happy New Year tomorrow to all. I returned from a 10 day holiday yesterday and the Galaxy was very slow to turn over (in fact it didn't in the end), and needed a jump start. Now this wasn't a complete surprise to me as it was doing the same on the day I left. I've checked the battery this morning, reading 12.5 volts before starting. Again it struggled a bit but fired up..... Volt meter now reading 14+ volts. I turned the lights and heater on and it's holding steady 14+ still. I ran it for 5 or so minutes and noticed the meter reading climbing still up to 16 volts. Is this correct? I checked YouTube for battery/alternator issues and a guy saying that the alternator could overcharge the battery causing damage. The battery is less than 2 years old (receipt lost). Any help appreciated.
  3. Hi, Eurocarparts has a 31% sale off various bits at the moment so I have an inclination to get the timing belt kit for my Galaxy (2003 53 plate TDi 130Bhp, manual). Problem is, which one? There are 8 different ones being quoted from 3 manufacturers? Anyone out there bought theirs from ECP and can offer assistance? Here's the part numbers:- 348770765 348770815 348770296 348770766 348770816 349770765 349770815 349774415 Alternatively, any user recommendations welcome Thanks
  4. Cheers! And only managed to remove a small piece of skin in the process. Cover now removed nd probably won't be going back on!! Checked the fuses as per handbook - all OK. Then found this post:- http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?/topic/23846-another-wiper-problem/page__p__170311__hl__wiper__fromsearch__1#entry170311 Fuse #33 - all sorted. Many thanks.
  5. Hi, the front & rear wipers on my '53 1.9TDi Galaxy have stopped working. I'm trying to check the fuse (No. 23 I think) but they are 'protected' by a clear plastic cover. Any ideas on how to remove this safely without damaging the fuse housing? Thanks in advance.
  6. Hi there......... As per the title, our 2003/53 130 TDi seems to stutter pulling away in 1st gear when the engine is cold. It's done 80k and due the annual service with cambelt change next month. When it has reached running temperature it is fine. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  7. Could you tell me if there was a charge,I did it in my old (97 115TDi) Gal and stopped at 1/4 tank finished with diesel and all was well.I thought AA RAC charged for misfuelling would like to be proved wrong Hi - yes.........
  8. Result! The AA drained the tank and fuel filter - then refuelled with diesel + additive and "Hey Presto!"it fired back into life. Phew!
  9. Cheers - found 2 threads with this subject, both times the owners managed to escape unscathed.......... I'm praying it's 3rd time lucky too!!
  10. Hi, my wifes 130 TDi (2003/53 72k) was mis-fuelled today. My wife drove about 1/4 mile before the Gal conked out - the car was pretty much running on fumes before it was filled up btw..... Anyway, the AA are coming tomorrow to drain the fuel tank, do some magic (hopefully!) and re-fuel with diesel. My question is - wht are the chances of a successful fix or is the engine kaputt? If so, what are the options - new car??? Thanks in advance to any advice.
  11. I need to replace the front 2 on our 2003 1.9TDi Galaxy. We did have Michelins which OK are pricey but compared to what I bought last time (Nexus or Nexen??) lasted at least twice as long. Have Avons on the back which show little wear from ~2 years driving.
  12. Cheers Ivor E. For info, the measurement I took didn't include the backing. I guess the moral of this story is to do the work myself next time.
  13. Hi, the brake sensor warning light appeared on my wifes' 53 reg 1.9tdi so took it to Kwik-Fit who diagnosed all pads required replacing. The Galaxy has covered 38k and this was the 1st pad change. They also recommended replacing all the discs too (lipped) plus the front 2 tyres - perfectly legal with ~5mm of depth but the walls were slightly perished (passed its' MOT with these and the tyres were an advisory). I told them only to change the pads but to keep the old ones. Upon inspection the rear ones show the sensor and are about 4mm of meat left on them - but the front ones are still ~7mm all round with no sensor visible. Just wondering whether the front ones were due a replacement or still had a few 000 left in them. Is it worth a complaint to Kwik-Fit?? BTW was quoted
  14. Cheers - I'll take a look at them this afternoon. Called local auto factors and they have them for
  15. Hi, after an approximate price to replace suspension bushes on my wifes' 53 plate Galaxy. My wife said she heard 'bangs' coming from underneath when going over speed bumps etc and a phonecall to local ford garage suggested this may be the problem (it's booked in for next Wednesday). Question is, how much will it cost? Thanks in advance.
