soptom Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 The Galaxy (2.0 p-reg) started early morning squealing the other day, I guessed the aux drive belt needed changing as it didn't look too healthy and the noise was situated around here. When I changed it this morning, it looks like the tensioner wheel is too narrow for the belt. It had cut the 6 rib belt down lengthways so it looks like a four rib belt with a 2 rib part shorn off. I bought a belt today(6 rib as all the pulleys are) yet it is definately too wide and overlaops the tensioner wheel. For some strange reason the new belt seemed slightly too long and although it ran all of the ancilliarys, I have removed it as it obviously didn't seem right. It did silence the squeak though. Is there something obvious I'm not doing? There are only two belts for this engine, with and without A/C and I double checked I bought the right one. To be honest, I'm more worried about the seemingly narrow tensioner than the lack of tension as a shorter belt would sort this bit. Quote

Mines just started doing the same! On holiday next week, so will change it then......i hope! Quote
